Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Rick and Morty season 6, episodes 9 and 10!

A lot happened in Rick and Morty season 6, but one Rick line suggests that the duo may finally be done abandoning dimensions whenever they mess things up. Throughout the series, Rick and Morty have constantly hopped dimensions using Rick's portal gun in order to go on weird and exciting sci-fi adventures, occasionally even abandoning their main dimension in favor of living somewhere else. Although this has happened multiple times throughout the show, Rick and Morty season 6, episode 9 suggests that things may finally be changing.

Rick and Morty season 6, episode 9, "A Rick in King Mortur's Mort" initially starts off as a goofy one-off episode, with Morty accidentally becoming the king of the Knights of the Sun after beating the former king in a sword fight. However, Morty soon makes the Knights lose their allegiance to protecting the solar system, accidentally igniting an interplanetary war that threatens to destroy the universe. Morty is eventually able to calm things down and restore order, but his initial plan earlier in the episode comes with some major implications for the rest of the show.

Why Rick & Morty Aren't Abandoning Dimensions Anymore

Rick Sanchez, Morty Smith, and Robot Rick in Rick and Morty's season 6 finale.

After realizing that he has caused a war in the solar system, Morty suggests to Rick that the two simply leave the current dimension (known as the Parmesan Dimension) that they moved to in Rick and Morty season 6, episode 1, and find another place to live. Rick refuses, telling Morty that he has to learn to take responsibility and fix the problem he has created. Although Morty does end the solar system war, choosing to stay in the Parmesan Dimension could have some effects on future Rick and Morty episodes.

Later on, in Rick and Morty season 6, episode 10, it is revealed that the Rick in episodes 9 and 10 was actually a robot made by the real Rick, meaning that the commitment to not leaving the Parmesan Dimension didn't directly come from the real Rick. However, Rick programmed Robot Rick's responses, meaning that the beliefs Robot Rick has come from the real Rick. So, considering Rick and Morty probably won't be abandoning dimensions anymore, future Rick and Morty season 7 episodes will most likely feature more callbacks to previous adventures, with the characters finally having to deal with the consequences of their actions.

How Many Times Have Rick & Morty Changed Dimensions?

Although Rick refused to change dimensions this time, Rick and Morty has featured its main characters permanently changing dimensions on occasion. The first of these was in season 1, episode 6, "Rick Potion No. 9," in which Rick and Morty leave Dimension C-137 and go to C-131 after accidentally turning everyone into Cronenberg monsters. Then, Rick and Morty switch dimensions again in season 6, episode 1, after accidentally releasing Mr. Frundles on Dimension C-131.

Rick and Morty season 3, episode 8, "Morty's Mind Blowers" actually confirms another previous dimension switch, although when this took place isn't known. After the squirrels realize that Morty can hear them, Rick and Morty quickly switch dimensions due to the squirrels' surprising danger. "Morty's Mind Blowers" reveals that Rick has erased Morty's memories multiple times, making it possible that there have been even more dimension changes that the audience is unaware of. Although it's impossible to pin down the exact number of dimensions that have been abandoned in Rick and Morty, season 6 hints that they may finally be done with this harmful habit.
