Ahead of the show's return, Rick and Morty season 6's updated opening is already available for fans of the Adult Swim series to watch. The adult animated series has gained a cult following since its start in 2013 and has led to multiple spin-offs, the first of which, The Vindicators 2, released earlier this year. Rick and Morty season 6 will premiere September 4 on Adult Swim, with the showrunners promising this season will have more continuity and canon.

Wormageddon, a worldwide attack of giant alien worms on earth, has been used in clips and promos to tease Rick and Morty season 6, with the Smith family teaming up with old allies like Mr. Nimbus and Squanchy. A real-life scavenger hunt has created further excitement for Rick and Morty season 6, with viewers having to work together online to figure out the locations of Wormageddon statues around the world. While it is unknown if Wormageddon will actually play a large role in season 6, it does tease a larger power at play that has the ability to seemingly teleport the worms and Smith family and allies.

On the Adult Swim YouTube channel, the Rick and Morty season 6 opening teases new adventures as the Smith family faces the universe after a destructive season 5 finale. New clips in the intro include a giant, ferocious flying squirrel, a Sherlock Holmes parody, a Morty variant made of butter, and a parade balloon of Rick notably carried by clone Beth. Although there is no sign of Evil Morty or Wormageddon in the new opening, it does tease the Smith family having to work together following the aftermath of the destruction of the Citadel of Ricks and the Central Finite Curve. Check out the new intro below:

Rick and Morty showrunners have recently said a new season will be released every year moving forward, which makes sense as to why season 6 seems to be more planned out and has better promotion. With the show likely having at least five more seasons, thanks to its 70-episode renewal order, five consecutive years of Rick and Morty seasons is a lofty goal but exciting prospect for fans of the series. Rick and Morty already has the next two seasons in production, so the showrunners are off to a promising start on delivering a season a year.

With the promotions and early release of the Rick and Morty season 6 updated opening, many are sure to feel that it is taking a step in the right direction to hype up new seasons and get viewers involved in real life. Even though the new intro doesn’t reveal much new information, it does tease more collaboration between the Smith family and the continuity promised by showrunners. Rick and Morty will face adventures without the same capabilities of going to other universes as past seasons, and season 6 is being set up to give the Smith family a run for their money with powerful foes and unknown traveling circumstances upon its September 4 premiere.
