The alien Daphne in Rick and Morty season 5 has a very familiar voice; viewers may recognize the actor from her previous comedic roles. Rick and Morty season 5, episode 3, “A Rickconvenient Mort,” introduces Daphne, Rick's new love interest from the doomed-planet Morglutz. The alien has a distinctly sultry cadence — and is perfectly cast, with Jennifer Coolidge in the role.

Rick and Morty often features big-name cameos; also in episode 3, Alison Brie appears as Planetina, Morty's love interest. Susan Sarandon had a memorable part as the family therapist Dr. Wong in "Pickle Rick," Christina Hendricks provided the voice of Rick's ex-flame Unity in "Auto Erotic Assimilation," and John Oliver played the Amoeba-like scientist Dr. Xenon Bloom, who helped Rick with his theme park venture in the episode "Anatomy Park."

In addition to Brie, two other guest stars appear in "A Rickconvenient Mort": Steve Buscemi plays Eddie, Planetina's grown-up "kid," and Coolidge plays Daphne, the Morglutz alien with unique elbow assets. Rick finds himself entranced by Daphne, despite her being a bit repulsive on the surface (when Rick first sees her, she's vomiting on a baby). Still, there's something undeniably sexy about her voice. This is the kind of role that Coolidge is perfect for: the actress is probably best known for her breakout role in American Pie as Stifler's mom, although she's had a strong career for many years, having played a number of hilarious characters.

Rick and Daphne in A Rickconvenient Mort : Rick And Morty

Before appearing in Rick and Morty season 5, Coolidge played several similar characters in feature films who are simultaneously sexually appealing and a bit offputting. In addition to playing Jeanine Stifler in the American Pie movie series, Coolidge may also be recognizable from her role as Paulette in the Legally Blonde series, as well as her regular presence in Christopher Guest's mockumentary movies, like Best in ShowA Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. Her voice in particular may be recognized from her performances in other animated projects, like Igor and The Emoji Movie. Most recently, Coolidge had a memorable turn (in live-action) as Susan Thomas in Promising Young Woman.

"A Rickconvenient Mort” ends with Daphne and Rick parting ways; however, the door is open for Coolidge to reprise the role down the line. Clearly, Daphne was just using the scientist for her own gain (survival) – but with no home planet to return to, she may find herself needing Rick's help again. Rick's previously romantic relationships have all been relegated to single episodes stories, so it would be interesting for the show to revisit a past fling and show how time changed their dynamic. The actress could also return in a completely different role. Even if Daphne never returns, her sassy alien will likely go down as one of the most memorable characters from Rick and Morty season 5.
