Rick & Morty fans rejoice: starting in 2020, every episode of the hit animated show will stream on HBO Max. On top of that, the show's long-awaited season 4 will finally premiere on Sunday, November 10 on Adult Swim. The absurd science-fiction series has earned die-hard fans after three brief seasons. Few shows have the ability to combine intense gravitas and a character named Mr. Poopy Butthole. Yet thanks to creator Dan Harmon's storytelling and comedy-writing skills, Rick & Morty does exactly that.
Contract negotiations temporarily derailed the fourth season of Rick & Morty, which already tests fans' patience with long breaks between seasons. However, fans of the show have had a lot of good news in 2019. Harmon recently revealed that his team is already working on the fifth season of Rick & Morty, and Adult Swim recently ordered 70 more episodes. With the season debut just two weeks away, there are plenty of reasons for Rick & Morty fans to celebrate this fall.
During a Tuesday-night investor event, AT&T released a torrent of news about their new streaming platform, HBO Max. The announcement included the welcome news that Turner Broadcasting has reached a library deal with AT&T, which will bring every episode of Rick & Morty to HBO Max. Not only that, but HBO Max will have exclusive streaming rights to the show, which is currently available on Hulu. However, that wasn't the only major animated show added to the platform. In addition to Rick & Morty, HBO Max has also secured streaming rights to all 23 seasons of South Park, not to mention DCEU movies such as Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Suicide Squad. The streaming platform will be released in May 2020 for $14.99 per month, with a possible ad-supported option to follow in 2021.
Notably, the $14.49 price tag would make HBO Max one of the most expensive streaming options. Apple TV Plus and Disney+ have entered the streaming wars at $4.99 and $6.99 per month, respectively. With all of the Tuesday night announcements coming from the investor event, HBO Max is clearly making a blitzkrieg-style push for streaming dominance.
Of course, many Rick & Morty fans don't care where their favorite show airs; they're more interested in when it airs. And while the show's fans have a reputation for impatience, they have had to wait an unusually long time since the end of season 3, which aired in October 2017. Even though the upcoming fourth season of the cartoon series is only five episodes long, the second half of the season is expected to air sometime in 2020. Harmon previously revealed that the fourth season is indeed 10 episodes long, which means more Rick & Morty adventures could be just around the corner, possibly even before the launch of HBO Max.
