There is no doubt why fans love Rick and Morty — an unholy composite of animated gore, existentialism, and the transient nature of human emotions. Having recently wrapped up Season 5, this show has garnered as much critical esteem as it has generated controversy (for example, the McDonald's Szechuan sauce incident).

The characters in Rick and Morty range from humans to androids to clones to aliens to genetic hybrids of world leaders... and more. It is interesting to consider the complicated personalities of each character, given their intrinsic strangeness. Below is a list that matches a few fan favorites with their most suitable zodiac sign.

Beth Smith - Aries

Those born under the Aries sign are known to be responsible individuals, regularly putting others before themselves. Beth has been doing this for twenty years, given that her dreams of being a (human) surgeon were put aside when she had her first child before stepping foot in college. Nevertheless, she retains her competitive nature, taking it personally when her skills are demeaned. This is shown when she aggressively operates on a deer just to prove to her husband that she was not merely a horse surgeon.

Summer Smith - Taurus

Summer tends towards being self-centered, a trait obviously inherited from Rick. Combined with a heavy dose of contempt for authority, Summer becomes a full-fledged Taurus. Unlike Rick or Morty, Summer is often the funniest, possesses considerable amounts of social intelligence, and proves time and again that she is the most dependable one in her family. This is seen when she is the only one to realize Tiny Rick's cries for help, forcing him to revert bodies with his older self (something even Morty fails to comprehend).

Morty Smith - Gemini

Morty Smith is, at the very least, a highly conflicted teenage boy whose moral code is constantly ripped to shreds when he goes on adventures with his grandpa. As a Gemini, he is able to express his emotions without feeling the need to obscure or justify them — although his entire family has ridiculed him for his openness.

Morty's perennial optimism, although intolerable to Rick, regularly helps them get out of sticky situations. This is shown when he insists on releasing Fart, a sentient gas form, because he believes in the goodness of all living things.

Mr. Meeseeks - Cancer

Cancer is defined by emotional depths, as those belonging to this sign display high levels of intuition. These features can be found in Mr. Meeseeks, whose singular aim is to help anyone who calls on them for assistance. Even though existence is pain to a Mr. Meeseeks, they are patient and generous, as seen when one of them gently allows Beth to reevaluate her own marriage. They are also coded to be loyal, but this can have complicated outcomes when their loyalty is put to a test by incompetent people like Jerry.

Mr. Poopybutthole - Leo

Although Mr. Poopybutthole seems like a nonsensical character, he does a lot more than entertain others with his goofy behavior (and ridiculous name). Being a Leo, he is openly amicable, never taking sides when it comes to making friends with other characters, with the exception of Beth (because she shot him.) Mr. Poopybutthole's energy and dynamism is electric, which is the reason why everyone in the show — as well as many viewers — find him completely adorable.

Jerry Smith - Virgo

Jerry Smith is a mediocre husband and father, whose life revolves around his own total lack of self-esteem. He manifests all the negative qualities of a Virgo, such as his insistence on tradition. This is shown when he refuses to acknowledge that Pluto does not have planetary status anymore, because he hates the idea of being left behind intellectually.

Jerry's mere existence is an annoyance to both Rick and Beth, largely due to his habit of nitpicking everything that goes on in the house. Jerry does display some minor amounts of bravery, however, like when he faced off against the murderous Mr. Meeseekses and managed to complete the task at hand.

Abrodolph Lincoler - Libra

Abrodolph Lincoler cannot come to terms with his own dichotomous nature. He is locked in an eternal struggle with his own mind, but at the same time is willing to sacrifice himself to save others, a genuine Libra attitude. For example, when he takes on a gigantic alien monster to protect Summer's house party — fully aware that all he can do is provide a distraction. By doing this, Lincoler has achieved a sort of inner peace, even though his final fate is to be used as a sex-toy for the monsters.

Squanchy - Scorpio

As a Scorpio, Squanchy is unpredictable (and even true fans don't know everything about Squanchy), sometimes to ridiculous extents. In the episode "The Wedding Squanchers", he drinks a chemical present inside a tooth, which consequently converts him into a monster. He proceeds to fight the Galactic Federation soldiers with the full ferocity of a Scorpio trying to save his loved ones. Squanchy is usually a polite creature, but can become super intense.

Birdperson - Sagittarius

Birdperson is honest, giving, and hospitable, all typical traits of people born under Sagittarius. He is one of Rick's most trusted friends, seeing as they fought together on several occasions. Birdperson can be very eccentric at times, like when he tries to feed Morty "random debris" from a carpet because he inexplicably doesn't know what humans eat. Nevertheless, his aim was to help Morty get stronger, so he could go back and save the Earth along with Rick (in the episode "Get Schwifty").

Evil Morty - Capricorn

Capricorns are often intelligent, persistent, and have a solid plan for any possible event. Evil Morty displays all these characteristics, given how he managed to get himself elected as the President of The Citadel of Ricks.

He seems to enjoy his position at the top of a hierarchy, as Capricorns are drawn towards highly organized systems. However, Evil Morty has been shown to misuse his power, like when he murders, in cold blood, all the Ricks and Mortys who oppose him (or know his true identity.)

Jessica - Aquarius

Jessica has largely been the focus of Morty's adolescent obsession for most of the show, but her sweet and empathetic personality is evident. Being an Aquarius, Jessica's nature shifts over time, morphing from bland teenage girl who only likes parties and jocks to assisting Rick when Morty disappears after getting rid of his toxic self in an alien spa. Jessica is innately polite, as shown when she gently lets Morty down when she realizes that their date is not going anywhere.

Rick Sanchez - Pisces

Rick is a classic Pisces, demonstrating the vast amounts of intelligence and creativity that are hallmarks of this star sign. However much he tries to depict himself as a cold-hearted brute — which he does almost always — Rick loves his family to the point of handing himself over to the Galactic Federation, just so that they would not have to become outlaws for his sake. He also shows a modicum of sensitivity towards issues of race, gender, and sexuality, which is not something one would expect from his uncouth demeanor.
