The New York City man who attacked beloved Canadian actor Rick Moranis has been arrested. Moranis rose to fame in the early 80s through his time on the sketch series SCTV and appeared in a number of hit comedies. He's best known for his roles in Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, though his career stretches well beyond those. For years now, Moranis has largely remained out of the public eye following the death of his wife, instead opting to spend time with his family. In recent months, however, Moranis has begun to step back into the entertainment sphere, and he even made a fun appearance in one of Ryan Reynolds' Mint Mobile ads.
Unfortunately, not all of Moranis' recent news stories have been positive. In early October, Moranis was randomly attacked on a New York City street. A unidentified man struck him in the head while he was walking along West 70th St., and Moranis had to go to the hospital because of injuries sustained to his head, back, and hip. Thankfully, Moranis' injuries weren't severe, and he was able to recover. At the time, numerous people shared their support on social media and called for the perpetrator to be found.
About a month and a half later, that has finally come to pass. On Saturday night, the NYPD News social media account revealed an "eagle-eyed sergeant" from NYPD Transit assisted in finding the man. He has been apprehended and charged, per the official tweet, though a name was not given. You can see the NYPD's post down below.
All of this comes as Moranis is preparing to make his first cinematic live-action appearance since 1997. Moranis will reprise his role of Wayne Szalinski in Disney's Shrunk, a new sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The news of Moranis' return was met with much excitement, particularly since it's been years since he has appeared in a live-action film. As one of the most beloved comedians of his generation, there's long been a desire for him to return to entertainment.
Sadly, though, he will not reprise another one of his most popular roles: Louis Tully from Ghostbusters. Though next year's Ghostbusters: Afterlife will see the returns of virtually the entire original cast, Moranis declined to make such an appearance. His presence will be missed, though it's still exciting to know he'll be back in Shrunk. It's also comforting to know his attacker has been caught, and that he's hopefully recovering from this terrible incident. Moranis has the support of many, and they're happy to know he's alright.
