Fresh off of being blasted for controversial posts on social media, The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City star Jennie Nguyen was quick to apologize. The franchise newbie was outed recently for several offensive posts she made at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement. Some of the posts used racially insensitive language that referred to "violent gangs" and "BLM thugs." Jennie reposted several objectionable graphics, memes and cartoons on her Facebook page over a six-month period in 2020. This led to an outcry for her to be fired immediately, especially in light of recent RHOSLC storylines.

This incident follows a particularly divisive stretch of episodes in which racial insensitivity has been a major part of the storyline. Interestingly, it's been Jennie accusing co-star Mary Cosby of using inappropriate language with regard to Jennie's ethnicity. Jennie, who is Vietnamese American, recently called Mary out after being offended at her use of the expression "slanted eyes." Mary, who claimed she had no idea why the expression would be offensive, unsuccessfully tried to pass it off as flattery, saying, "I didn't mean any harm by that. Like, for me, it's a compliment." This didn't fly with Jennie, who fired back, "You can say things differently, like I love your beautiful eyes. But when you reference, 'I love your slanted eyes,' you know, it's very insulting to me."

Recognizing that her own posts were hurtful, Jennie offered an apology. Jennie took to Instagram and wrote, "I want to acknowledge and apologize for my deleted Facebook posts from 2020 that resurfaced today. At the time, I thought I was speaking out against violence, but I have since learned how offensive and hurtful my words were." After claiming that she had deactivated the Facebook account in question, she continued, "I continue to try to learn about perspectives different from my own. I regret those posts and am sincerely sorry for the pain they caused."

Unsurprisingly, those who have been following the whole unfortunate episode are not particularly forgiving thus far. Many are calling for Jennie's immediate dismissal, pointing out the irony of her situation. One viewer summed it up by saying, "Not Jennie getting exposed for being racist, anti black and anti-vaxx. Plus the blaccent and racist microagressions towards Mary AND being a trumper. Her snowflake has officially melted." Jennie captioned her apology post with "#hateisavirus" and turned off the comments section for that post and the one preceding it. Commenters are using her previous posts to air their grievances regarding the reality star's perceived hypocrisy.

It boggles the mind that offensive posts made as recently as 2020 were not uncovered by producers prior to making Jennie a cast member. In a day and age where posting something on the Internet means it's there forever, fans don't understand how Jennie's gaffes were missedThe Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City is plagued with so much racially charged content this year that it leaves some viewers wondering if network executives are purposely ignoring easily discoverable red flags in order to amp up the drama.
