Candiace Dillard Bassett said her The Real Housewives of Potomac co-star Ashley Darby is disloyal in a recent interview. The "Drive Back" singer and reality star explained why the two are no longer friends and why their feud continues. Candiace's fallout with Ashley began shortly after she joined the cast on RHOP season 3. Though the two young housewives share a background in the DC pageant circuit, Candiace and Ashley's similarities were quickly squashed as their relationship developed.
Candiace and Ashley have been part of major on-screen blow-ups at one another and have a history of blasting each other on Twitter. Their bad blood escalated in the fallout of Candiace's physical altercation with former RHOP co-star Monique Samuels. Ashley wrote a character statement in support of Monique following the legal aftermath of the incident. Though Monique's charges were ultimately dropped, Ashley siding with Monique was enough to scorn Candiace. The Howard University grad didn't hold back when she explained how Ashley wronged her in a recent interview.
"As a friend, I have a standard of protocols,” Candiace explained to ET. "Loyalty is one of them." Candiace compared her friendliness toward Wendy Osefo when the professor first joined the cast to Ashley's two-faced treatment of Candiace as a show newbie. "Ashley brought me in, she dumped me on the side of the road, and then she was shading me in confessionals five minutes after I joined the cast," she said. "I didn’t even see that until it aired. I was like, ‘Wow. Who is this girl?’” Candiace went on to explain the question of Ashley's loyalty and their friendship was ultimately answered following the physical fight with Monique on RHOP season 5. “The true catalyst, for me, was when she involved herself in legal matters, simply to be vindictive,” she said.
Ashley had the chance to address their beef on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she said Candiace pushes off confrontation. In her interview, Candiace called Ashley's explanation "poppycock." "Ashley is the queen of deflection," Candiace said. "The queen of deflection. There are so many examples… She’s full of you know what. I literally pay her no mind. None. You can’t take anything she says seriously.” Candiace continued, stating Ashley was disloyal to everybody. "You know who she's loyal to, because that's where her help is," she said. "Everybody else can get it at any time. People like that are dangerous people, so I stay far, far away."
Viewers are expecting to see Candiace and Ashley face each other on the upcoming episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac when the ladies' trip to Williamsburg takes a turn for the worst. After stepping to the sidelines of filming during her second pregnancy, Ashley appears to return to the group to stir up drama on Candiace's trip. Fans will have to find out if the enemies butt heads or Candiace truly plans to stay far, far away.
