In her new comedy tour, Sonja Morgan takes a swing at the strangest moments on The Real Housewives Of New York City. Four years after her messy divorce from John Adams Morgan, Sonja’s life changed when she accepted a role on the mega-hit Bravo franchise. Now 11 years later, the 57-year-old is leaping into the comedy world, ripping open the curtain and unleashing her thoughts.
Of course, Sonja is no stranger to the stage. In 2018, she strapped on a silk dress to perform cabaret with Luann de Lesseps, until news spread that Luann was paying her only $225 per show. The disclosure sent shock waves through the RHONY cast, who were outraged at Luann for taking advantage of Sonja’s talent. And when Luann fired Sonja from the act, the battle turned into a cold war.
According to Page Six, however, Sonja is now officially striking out on her own. Last week, she allowed audiences into the dress rehearsal for her comedy show, Sonja in Your City, which poked fun at the strange things she’s done on RHONY. In one of the sketches, Sonja addresses “the infamous Sonja Morgan Toaster Oven,” a failed business endeavor which made little sense at the time and earned her years of ridicule from her castmates. In another bit, she jokes about her own “sex and relationship tips."
Sonja's bold sexuality is often a source of mockery on RHONY. While many fans admire her candor, others are turned off by her approach. On a boozy vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Sonja attempted to mouth-kiss most of the cast before blatantly propositioning Bethenny Frankel for sex. On another trip in St. Barts, Sonja bragged about sleeping with a Johnny Depp look-alike, who allegedly slept with Luann. On the stage, however, Sonja's honesty seems to be working. Her performance at the Asylum comedy club “was the fastest sellout of a show in the club’s history," according to the owner. By the end of the night, the audience was chanting the housewife's name.
Many fans wonder how Luann will respond to her castmate's sudden success. The former countess has a Christmas-themed cabaret show in the same season, which will compete against Sonja’s comedy tour. The dueling divas have shared not only the stage but also multiple sexual partners. Their rivalry is like a silent character on RHONY, popping in and out of various scenes. Only time will tell if Luann plays nice and chooses to support her supposed friend. The official premiere of Sonja in Your City will be September 8 at Asylum NYC, and the next performance is October 13. Sonja is planning on expanding the show to other cities like Baltimore; Washington, DC; and Philadelphia.
