After initially downplaying her drunken behavior in a bar the other night, The Real Housewives Of New York star Luann de Lesseps is taking responsibility and offering an apology. Earlier this week a lit-up Luann reportedly entered a gay piano bar in New York City, commandeered the microphone, and after reportedly drunkenly mumbling through several songs, was booed to the point that she began hurling obscenities at the patrons, which included several drag queens. Witnesses said that the Class With The Countess author was eventually escorted to the exit.

Luann, who has been very vocal about her struggles with alcohol, spent RHONY season 13 fortifying her sobriety with the support of fellow sober castmate Leah McSweeney. In fact, Leah, who had been sober for several years prior to joining the cast, let loose during her first season on RHONY and participated in the women's drunken escapades. She did, however, decide on a new tack for her second go-round, and Leah and Luann found solace in each other during several alcohol-fueled scenes aired last season.

Although Luann and her friend originally shared a completely different version of what happened in the piano bar that night, Luann apparently did some reflection and took to Instagram to offer an apology. She wrote, "This week after a regrettable incident I was faced with the truth." She apologized to the staff at the Townhouse, the bar she was at, and any else who might have been offended by her behavior. Luann added that although she's made a lot of progress over the years when it comes to her relationship with alcohol, she takes it day by day and is currently taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. Luann also thanked her friends and family for continuing to support her in her sobriety journey. Housewives from virtually every franchise and other Bravolebrities offered support and encouragement in the comments section.

Luann, who was arrested in 2017 after an alcohol-fueled incident in Palm Beach, Florida, has been a very public work in progress when it comes to her sobriety ever since. As the subject of People Features: Luann de Lesseps: My Battle With Addiction, Luann admitted in 2018 that she was having several drinks every day before realizing that she needed help. She told People, “I would start with a martini and maybe have two martinis, and then get into the wine at dinner,” and “Then I’d have a little bit of vodka soda going out.” She shared that after her arrest, she realized that alcohol no longer worked for her and then ultimately went to rehab.

Luann apologizing and taking responsibility for her actions can only be seen as a positive step. Her initial denial about the incident was peculiar in light of the firsthand reports stating otherwise, and Luann's own proclivity to own up to her actions, but her subsequent acknowledgment of her daily struggle surely resonates with others who are in similar positions. Hopefully, with support from her friends and family, Luann will get through this latest episode better than ever. Should The Real Housewives Of New York return, fans will undoubtedly be rooting for the cabaret star.
