In season 12 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Melissa Gorga’s husband Joe Gorga and his niece Gia Giudice go at it, and Melissa shares that seeing them fighting “always hurts.” Gia Giudice is the 21-year-old daughter of RHONJ star Teresa Guidice and fans have watched her grow up from a young girl to a college student. Since the beginning seasons of RHONJ, fans have watched the strained relationship between Teresa and her brother Joe. It was made worse since Teresa’s ex-husband Joe Giudice’s criminal investigation led to both Teresa and Joe having to serve time in prison. Since then, Joe Gorga has been vocal about his animosity towards his ex-brother-in-law.
In this season of RHONJ, Teresa’s daughters share their hurt feelings over the public statements Joe has made about their father. They all had a close relationship with their uncle but they shared that they hadn’t seen him in over six months. In the most recent episode, Teresa hosted a pool party and despite his reservations, Joe ended up going.Soon, Gia started making comments regarding Joe’s attack on her father, which caused Joe to get defensive. which caused Joe to get defensive. The two started arguing and things became so heated, Gia walked away.
Following the episode, Melissa explained to Page Six why watching Joe fight with his family “always hurts.” She explained that she felt bad for Joe in that situation because “it goes without saying that he dies for them. He loves them so much. He has a really special place [in his heart for] her girls, especially Gia.” During the explosive fight, Joe cried to Gia that he was her uncle and Godfather and that he held her in her arms after she was born. He told her, “I’ve loved you since the minute I saw you.” Joe followed Gia after cooling off for a bit and the two were able to make amends.
Gia told Joe that she just wanted to put the past behind her. Gia cried that her mother going to prison happened over five years ago. Melissa admitted to Page Six that Joe will never “win the conversation about their father.” Teresa’s daughters will always have their father’s back and as much as it pains Joe, Melissa explained “he just has to sit back and take it because you can’t correct children about their parents because nobody wants to hear that.”
Teresa’s daughters are fiercely loyal to their father, despite everything he has put their family through. After Joe Giudice served time in prison, he was deported back to Italy, his native country. The Giudice’s meet in the Bahamas to spend time together, and Teresa even introduced Joe to her new fiancé Luis Ruelas. This season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey was cathartic to the Gorgas and the Giudices. Melissa shared that with all the fighting and drama that took place, the family was finally able to get everything off their chests and everyone is in a much better place now.
