Lisa Rinna, the outspoken star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is under fire from the American Institute for Cancer Research after she made flippant remarks about getting cancer. Lisa is not a stranger to taking things too far, as witnessed in season 6 when she said that Yolanda Hadid may be suffering from Munchausen syndrome and questioned whether she and her daughter actually had Lyme disease. Viewers were left shocked at her insinuations that Yolanda could be lying about suffering from the disease, but it certainly wouldn't be the last time her pronouncements left fans appalled.
TMZ reported that the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) has spoken out about Lisa's comments regarding cancer that she made during a recent episode. After Kathy Hilton's supposed "meltdown" in Aspen, Lisa told the other Housewives that if she doesn't talk about it, she will get cancer and "get sick and die." The AICR commented not only on the ethical side of Lisa's statements but the scientific side as well. They underlined that there is "no strong evidence" that supports the claim that stress by itself leads to cancer. In addition, a representative from the Institute stated that Lisa was "using the specter of cancer as emotional blackmail" to allow herself to continue her tirade against Kathy and "to rationalize stirring up drama."
Lisa's RHOBH Reunion Comments Draw Ire From Cancer Institute and Fans
The AICR emphasized that her remarks were in no way based on reputable or factual research. Not only is Lisa's over exaggeration ridiculous, it is also empirically false, and it's no surprise that the AICR took issue with her statement. RHOBH viewers have pointed out that Kathy and Kyle's mother died from breast cancer, and insinuating that simply not talking about what happened in Aspen will lead to Lisa getting cancer is tone-deaf and callous.
Former Housewife Camille Grammer was also diagnosed with endometrial cancer, had a hysterectomy, and is now a vocal advocate for cancer awareness and spreading information about testing and possible symptoms. Lisa's insensitive remarks led to eye rolls by other cast members like Garcelle Beauvais, Sutton Stracke, and Diana Jenkins, who were obviously shocked to hear Lisa inflate her experience with Kathy to such an extreme level. Lisa has already taken the title of "villain" on RHOBH season 12, and her cancer comments seem to have further solidified that label.
Lisa's offhand remarks about other cast members have long rubbed fans the wrong way for years, and many believe she should be released from the show. No official news has been announced stating whether she will or will not return for season 13. However, some of Lisa's social media posts regarding RHOBH and her absence at this year's BravoCon have viewers wondering if season 12 will be her last.
