Rey from the new Star Wars trilogy is the top-ranked female movie character by eBay in the United Kingdom. Movie fans first met Rey, of course, in 2015's worldwide blockbuster The Force Awakens – when then-relative newcomer Daisy Ridley brought life to a scavenger from the desert planet of Jakku who would come to discover that she has the power of the Force.

Since then, the character has become a cultural icon, appearing in the form of action figures, in video games, on T-shirts and in the animated Forces of Destiny shorts, and will next appear, naturally, in the eighth episode of the Skywalker family saga with The Last Jedi. Rey, basically, is represented in every form of entertainment merchandising, and when it comes to eBay in the UK, the character is in high demand.

According to eBay UK's new list of Most Popular Female Movie Characters (via Jedi Temple Archives), Rey has been the popular auction site's most-searched for female movie character since her debut in The Force Awakens, with nearly 7,000 searches for the character per hour. While the site didn't give numbers for the second character on the list, Wonder Woman, it said that searches for character have increased 13 times since the debut of the Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot earlier this year.

Coming in at No. 3 on eBay list of Most Popular Female Movie Characters was Princess Leia, who of course was the legendary character created by Carrie Fisher 40 years ago in the first Star Wars film. While the searches for Princess Leia are far-less than her Star Wars counterpart, Rey, eBay UK says there are 800 searches for the character per hour.

Placing fourth and fifth on the list are two classic Disney princesses. Belle from Beauty and the Beast was No. 4 with 500 searches per hour on eBay UK; while Ariel from The Little Mermaid rounded out the top five with 400 searches for the character per hour.

With any luck, eBay UK will release a similar list of its Most Popular Male Movie Characters, to see just how classic Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Darth Vader rank, as well as newer characters like Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron and Finn. It shouldn't come as a big surprise that Star Wars dominates the eBay UK list, given that the first film virtually revolutionized the movie marketing industry in 1977 when the Lucasfilm took movie licensing to a whole new level by granting Kenner the rights to produce 3 3/4-inch action figures. It was an ingenious move that helped make Star Wars the multi-billion dollar industry that it is today.
