Warning: SPOILERS for Strange #10

One of Doctor Strange's new enemies has a truly terrifying form in Marvel Comics, and only a living God can stop him - for this enemy might as well be a God himself. The Marvel Universe is no stranger to phenomenally-powerful beings, from Thor to the Scarlet Witch to space-based threats like Ego the living planet, and more are being created every day. But in Strange #10, Marvel's Sentry becomes even more powerful than ever before - and undead.

In current comics continuity, Doctor Strange is dead, a victim to an assassination plot created by his nemesis Baron Mordo. But Death has other plans for Strange, and has granted him an undead body and new powers as the mysterious Harvestman. The Blasphemy Cartel is utilizing Revenants - undead specters - to terrorize the world, and Death will only relinquish Strange's soul if he eliminates the threat. Allying with his ex-wife Clea, Doctor Strange battles his way through the Cartel's Revenant army until he comes face-to-face with Revenant Prime: the Sentry himself.

In Strange #10, written by Jed MacKay with art by Marcelo Ferreira, Strange and Clea join forces and face off against the undead version of the Sentry. The evil Director None has weaponized the undead spirit of Bob Reynolds, and even Clea is terrified of her new enemy. None of Clea's powerful spells work against him, and even the Harvestman's Death-granted magic is not enough. When one remembers just how powerful a living Sentry can be, this leads to a dread realization: the Sentry simply cannot be stopped, and that is the point of the character.

The Sentry Is A Terrifying Villain For Doctor Strange

Robert Reynolds, better known as the Sentry, is a deliberately-overpowered superhero. The Sentry's power level outclasses Thor, the Incredible Hulk and even some space-based threats - but Bob also suffers from crippling mental health issues that serve as his weaknesses. He is averse to crowds, has tremendous social anxiety, and agoraphobia, all of which contribute to his inability to fight threats in the Marvel Universe (see the World War Hulk event, where his biggest struggle wasn't fighting the Hulk, but leaving his own house).

In the end of the issue, the only force that can stop Revenant Prime is Life and Death itself - so Clea and Doctor Strange merge to create an entity more powerful than Reynolds' undead form. The Revenant is banished, Doctor Strange's life is restored, and the real Robert Reynolds is presumably sitting in his house, far away from any conflict involving demons. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange has no such luck, as his new series begins in 2023 - hopefully without an undead revenant Sentry for him to face once again.
