While Resident Evil is typically known for its high production scares and intense violence, it also slows down at times and makes players think a little bit. As in past games, this is no different here as the game features many different puzzles that need to be completed to progress through the story. The game never focuses on puzzles but has enough to slow things down after long stretches of action and tension.

As more players are starting their adventure as Ethan Winters, they will come across a puzzle early on in the game after reaching Castle Dimitrescu that revolves around four statues. Here is how to solve the Hall Of The Four Puzzle in Resident Evil: Village.

How To Solve The Hall Of The Four Puzzle In Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village Hall of Ablution Puzzle Solution

Shortly after escaping Lady Dimitrescu players will return to the main hall of the castle where four statues will be protruding from the floor. This puzzle requires players to search the castle and locate four different Angel Masks that fit and correspond with the statues to unlock the door in the main hall. The four masks include the mask of sorrow, mask of joy, mask of rage, and mask of pleasure.

The Mask Of Sorrow

Head up to the second floor and turn right. Continue down the path until you reach a door with a face on it that is missing an eyeball. Use the maroon eye obtained earlier and insert it into the socket to unlock and open the door. One of Lady Dimitrescu's daughters will attack here but just ignore her and push down the hallway until you reach the dressing room. There's a hidden path in the back of the room that can be uncovered by ripping off a piece of wood that is covering it. Follow that until you'll eventually fall through a hole down a couple of floors.

Keep following the path until you reach the first boss fight of the game with one of the daughters. The key to fighting each of these is making sure they are positioned in the light where they are weak and vulnerable to damage.

After defeating her, walk through into the kitchen and pick up the sanguine virginis. You can now go back to the wine room near the main hall and place the sanguine virginis on the pedestal to unlock a new door and unlock the courtyard key. Now that the courtyard key has been obtained, head there and in the corner of the courtyard is a set of doors. Open them up and head through.

You'll eventually come up to the Hall Of Ablution puzzle, which after solving will reveal a staircase. Go down the staircase and follow the path until you reach an elevator. Take the elevator until you reach a cutscene. After the cutscene, enter the room and obtain Dimitrescu's key. Use that key on the door in the room when another cutscene will play. Follow the path leading to a flight of stairs that leads to a statue that contains the Mask Of Sorrow.

The Mask Of Joy

Players now need to head towards opera hall. There is a piano in the room that needs to be played to a specific tune, and playing that tune successfully will grant players the Iron Insignia Key. Head back upstairs and use that key to open the locked door and start the second boss fight.

This boss fight is relatively the same. Get the daughter into the light and shoot her when she's weak. The only difference here is you must open the skylight in the middle of the room when she's standing there. Rinse, repeat. After defeating her, head into the hall of joy to claim The Mask Of Joy from the statue.

The Mask Of Rage

The next room to head towards is the Atelier. To open the door in this room, shoot the four bells hidden around the room (and one outside the window). Go through the unlocked door and follow the path until you reach a zipline. Ride the zipline and obtain the Mask Of Rage from the statue.

The Mask Of Pleasure

Head back to the main hall and head up to the second floor. Use Dimitrescu's key to unlock the hall of pleasure. Grab the mask of pleasure and prepare for the boss fight with the last daughter. Again, the same rules apply when it comes to damaging her, but this time to create light players need to use one of the pipe bombs they picked up and throw it at the cracked wall. The wall will explode creating light that can be used to weaken and damage her.

After defeating her, go back to the room where you found the Mask Of Pleasure. Because you took the mask, the door won't open until something is takes it place. Luckily, a mounted animal skull is above the fireplace that can be obtained and examined. After examining it and removing the piece of wood, it can be placed in the mount that the mask was originally on and the door will open.

Finally, return to the main hall where the puzzle started, and place the four masks in their corresponding statues. The Mask Of Sorrow goes in the left-most statue, the mask of joy goes into the center-right statue, the mask of rage goes into the right-most statue, and the mask of pleasure goes into the center-left statue.

This won't be the last puzzle that needs to be completed by players, but most of the time these puzzles are relatively easy to solve. Just make sure to take everything in the room into account and look in every nook and cranny. It will help solve puzzles easier and help players get some worthwhile upgrades along the way.
