Capcom has shared a new teaser for Resident Evil Village that gives more hints about the upcoming game’s story and setting. There is already a lot of hype surrounding Capcom’s latest survival horror game. In particular, Resident Evil Village’s imposing Lady Dimitrescu, in particular, has taken the internet by storm, with her statuesque frame being compared to that of Halo’s Master Chief, as well as some legendary Pokémon.

While Lady Dimitrescu is being widely discussed across the many gaming channels and websites, there is more to Resident Evil 8 than just its bewitching villain. So little is known still about the setting and story of this latest title in the RE franchise. There has been plenty of speculation on both fronts from fans of the series, with clues being gleaned from the various promotional releases. Given the Gothic nature of the Dimitrescu Castle, which was featured prominently in the Maiden demo for the PS5, as well as the currency being used confirmed as Lei, many now believe a fictional village within Romania to be the main setting of Resident Evil Village.

In the run-up to its release, Capcom has shared an enigmatic post for fans excited about the launch of Resident Evil 8, this time in the form of a puzzle. Sharing a shot of a confidential transcript with blocked out the wording on its Resident Evil Twitter handle, Capcom (Via GamesRadar) teased its followers to “inspect” the document for clues. One fan has managed to fill in all of the blanks, by using the partially revealed first and last letters in each redacted word and the map that comes with the Resident Evil 8 Collectors Edition. Sharing their discovery in the original post’s feed, Twitter user NV states that the location that Ethan Winters (presumably the author of this report) is in is “Beneviento House” on an assignment to monitor the “village,” and that RE8’s protagonist has discovered blood marks that indicate that bodies have recently been dragged through the snow. Ethan goes on to write that he will “begin recording the castle occupants and activities.”

It has not been confirmed by Capcom if these answers are correct or not, and others have pointed out that the first few hidden words could be "Eastern Europe". They do all fit in with what is already known about Resident Evil 8 though. The Maiden demo that was based inside Castle Dimitrescu definitely showed off its occupants’ penchant for blood, making the gory trail in the snow, as well as the need to monitor the family there, a reasonable conclusion to be reached given the rest of the case note’s wording.

Fans of the Resident Evil franchise will not have to wait much longer to find out more about the inhumane delights that Capcom will be offering. With the Maiden demo already whetting appetites of those in possession of a PS5, and another demo soon to be released for last-gen consoles, gamers will have plenty to keep them entertained and guessing before the Spring release of Resident Evil Village.
