Having recently announcing the upcoming Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom has shared a free avatar on the PlayStation Store that all PS4 and PS5 owners can download with a redemption code. The Resident Evil Showcase will go live on Thursday, January 21, with What's Good Games' Brittney Brombacher is set to host the digital event. There, Capcom plans to unveil a new trailer, as well as show off first-look gameplay of Resident Evil Village.

The publisher has a few other surprises in store for next week's online showcase, too. In celebration of the horror franchise's 25 anniversary, for instance, Capcom will run closed beta testing for an unannounced Resident Evil multiplayer game, which should receive additional details during the event. Fans can currently sign up for a chance to join the beta by registering on the official Resident Evil website. To be considered, applicants must be 18 years of age and have access to a Capcom ID linked to the RE Ambassador program.

Capcom is additionally using PSN avatars to build up the RE Village hype. For an unknown period of time, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users can log into the PlayStation Store and redeem a free avatar of an enigmatic vampire lady. The code that's been shared online on Reddit appears as follows: LEJH-M8N9-E5XF. Since this is an unlimited code, everyone with a PSN account can sign in and grab the avatar for use on their own account. Again, how long the code will stay active remains to be seen, so those who don't want to miss out should act quickly.

No one knows what the unannounced Resident Evil multiplayer experience entails as of yet. Capcom's last exploration of online multiplayer with the series came in the form of Resident Evil Resistance, a mode bundled with last year's Resident Evil 3 remake.

To the delight of many fans, Resident Evil has enjoyed resurgence in the last handful of years. Its return to the forefront, of course, began with the 2017 launch of Resident Evil 7, which marked a major departure from the series, as players were placed in a first-person perspective. Resident Evil Village will serve as a continuation of that narrative, answering myriad lingering questions from both the 2017 smash hit and the franchise's wider story arc. Due to a data breach that impacted Capcom's networks in November of last year, it seems leaks may have spoiled some of Resident Evil Village's core narrative beats.
