An update on Resident Evil Village's Steam Database entry seems to suggest that multiplayer will likely be a part of the next entry. Of course, Capcom hasn't exactly hidden the fact that more Resident Evil multiplayer content is on the horizon. Last week, the publisher opened registration for a Resident Evil-related closed multiplayer beta, which could very well be tied directly to Resident Evil Village.

All who are interested in potentially taking part can sign up for the beta until January 25 at 9:59 am EST. Registration is open on Resident Evil's official website, but only those 18 years of age or older will be considered. Applicants must also have access to a Capcom ID that's tied to the Resident Evil Ambassador program. As of writing, details about the beta itself remain scarce, though additional information will go live on January 21 during Resident Evil Showcase.

Resident Evil Village's Steam DB page received an update earlier today, as spotted by Wccftech. Interestingly, the latest update added a new store tag to the page specifically for multiplayer. This serves as further evidence to the long-held belief by some that Resident Evil Village will boast online features of some kind, though what exactly they could entail is up for debate.

Capcom's most recent exploration of multiplayer in Resident Evil came in the form of Resident Evil Resistance. The asymmetrical experience pits a small group of Survivors against a Mastermind. While most Survivors are characters that Capcom designed for Resistance, the Mastermind figures are iconic series villains, such as Annette Birkin, Alex Wesker, and Mr. X. Unfortunately, this particular multiplayer offering didn't arrive in the best state, and, as a result, the playerbase dwindled rapidly. Hopefully history won't repeat itself with whatever Capcom's planning next.

The publisher will share more concrete details about both Resident Evil Village and the aforementioned closed beta during Resident Evil Showcase. Fans can tune in to the digital event on January 21 at 5:00 pm EST to see the various announcements Capcom has lined up. Apart from multiplayer-centric information, the showcase will unveil a brand-new RE Village trailer and offer a first look at gameplay footage. This is merely conjecture, but it wouldn't be too surprising if release date details finally emerged during the event, as well.
