A recently released Resident Evil Village mod replaces Ethan Winters with Rose as the playable character. The latest Resident Evil entry places Ethan's and Mia's daughter in a rather precarious position. Once RE Village's introductory sequences are out of the way, Ethan plots a course for the nearby village in hopes of bringing his child home safely.

After months of rumors and leaks, publisher Capcom unveiled the Resident Evil 7 follow-up last summer during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal event. Fans didn't begin receiving concrete details about the sequel until earlier this year. Fortunately, the wait to learn of Ethan's and Mia's fate didn't last long - the first-person horror title hit stores a few weeks ago and quickly managed to top the sales charts. In addition to outperforming its predecessors on Steam, RE Village topped three million copies sold after only four days on the market. It should come as no surprise, then, that fan-made mods are already rising in popularity.

A new mod from xRaq on Nexus Mods explores how Rose would fare in her father's shoes by replacing Ethan with a grown-up version of the younger Winters. The "Play as Rose Winters" mod boasts two different versions. One allows users to assume the role of Ethan's daughter from Resident Evil Village's standard first-person perspective. Another version serves as an add-on to FluffyQuack's third-person RE Village mod, letting fans step into Rose's shoes with a third-person camera view in tow.

This acts as yet another way for players to explore the horrors of the titular village. It's not quite as outlandish as some of the other mods that have made the rounds of late, however. One replaced the creatures that stalk Castle Dimitrescu's dungeon with eerie Barney the Dinosaur figures. A different mod raised the stakes by morphing Thomas the Tank Engine's face onto that of Lady Dimitrescu. No one is safe it seems.

Though Capcom just unleashed Resident Evil Village, RE faithful have already begun to question where the publisher will take the horror franchise next. Fans may not have to wait long to find out, though. The leaks derived from last year's Capcom data breach claim that Resident Evil adventures with the codenames of Outrage and Hank will launch in Q4 2021 and Q2 2024, respectively.
