Players can expect more content in Resident Evil Village than its predecessor, as it has been confirmed that the game will be much larger than Resident Evil 7. The Resident Evil series hit a slump with Resident Evil 6, but the next entry brought the franchise back to its survival horror roots.
Resident Evil 7 starred Ethan Winters, as he searched for his missing wife. Unlike the highly-trained members of the S.T.A.R.S. crew, Ethan was just a regular guy who had to survive a house full of bio-engineered monsters. Resident Evil 7 focused on the survival horror and puzzle aspects of the early entries of the series, with Ethan being pursued through an abandoned plantation by enemies that he couldn't overpower with firearms.
Resident Evil Village is bringing Ethan back for some more horror and players will have a lot more time with him in his latest adventure. Resident Evil Village producer Peter Fabiano has confirmed in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine UK (via. Game Infinitus) that the game will be much longer than Resident Evil 7.

According to How Long To Beat, Resident Evil 7 takes around nine and a half hours to complete. The individual DLC episodes take around an hour each to complete. These numbers aren't set in stone, especially if players try to tackle the game on Madhouse difficulty. A ten-hour runtime is still a decent length, especially for a tense horror game that keeps the player on the edge of their seat the entire time. It's unclear exactly how much longer Resident Evil Village will be, but it shouldn't be hard to expand upon Resident Evil 7's length.
Resident Evil Village is returning to a Resident Evil 4-style approach, with a bigger focus on combat, weapon customization, and item crafting. The Merchant from Resident Evil 4 has returned, in order to keep Ethan stocked up with ammo and weapons. The people who enjoyed the survival horror aspects of Resident Evil 7 might be disappointed by this shift in focus, but the recent trailers prove that Ethan is still going to be way out of his depth. The titular village is crawling with enemies, as well as a certain giant lady who has recently gained Internet fame. Ethan might be better equipped to deal with the creatures of the night this time around, but he's unlikely to be massacring his way to victory.
Resident Evil Village hits stores for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on May 7, 2021.
