The news that Resident Evil Village fans have waited to hear has finally arrived, as Capcom has confirmed that Lady Dimitrescu will pursue the player throughout the game, just like Resident Evil 2 and 3's respective Mr. X and Nemesis. Given the online obsession with Lady Dimitrescu's figure, it's likely that some players won't be running very fast.

The original Resident Evil 2 introduced the concept of a stalker enemy to the series, in the form of Mr. X. These relentless foes pursue the player throughout the game and could only be temporarily stalled. The most famous of these enemies was Nemesis from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, who was dispatched to kill the remaining members of the S.T.A.R.S. team after the events of the previous game. The modern remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 brought Mr. X and Nemesis back. They became even more terrifying, as they had more scope to chase players between areas (though Nemesis' pursuit programming was far more scripted and limited, lessening the tension).

With this type of enemy having resurged in popularity at Capcom, many have speculated that Lady Dimitrescu will also chase players around the titular Village. In new Resident Evil Village gameplay shown by the official PlayStation Blog, it's now confirmed that Lady Dimitrescu will pursue Ethan through at least part of the game, stalking him much like Mr. X and Nemesis do Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine. Some viewers online report being less frightened and more put off by the preview player's odd play style, while more shameless commenters already say they intend to be caught.

Based on the new gameplay snippet, Lady Dimitrescu will chase Ethan around with her menacing claws, with the player being able to stop and fight or do their best to hide. Lady Dimitrescu is one of the tallest Resident Evil villains of all time, which means that she has to keep stooping through doorways in order to pursue Ethan, which appears to help slow her down. If she catches up to Ethan, she can attack with her massive claws, which will likely finish the player in a few strikes (if not just one insta-kill blow).

Interestingly, information about Lady Dimitrescu being a stalker-type enemy first surfaced out of last year's massive Capcom leak, so it's nice to have official confirmation in the run-up to the game. The many fans of Lady Dimitrescu might also be saddened to learn of her new status. In previous games, both Mr. X and Nemesis had final boss battles where they transformed into hideous monsters. This means that the same may also happen to the beloved giantess of the Resident Evil franchise.
