Resident Evil Village has now released the DLC content, Shadows of Rose, where players eventually encounter a puzzle surrounding an area called the Hall of Ablution, where they must arrange statues a certain way in order to progress. Now sixteen years after the events that followed Ethan Winter's journey, Shadows of Rose stars his daughter, diving into the subconscious world of the Megamycete in an attempt to drain her abnormal abilities through a Purifying Crystal. Traversing familiar horrors, players must once again brave the immense Castle Dimitrescu in order to reach the Basement area, which unlocks the Silver Mask after solving the puzzle, opening up the next direction for Rose to follow.

Solving the puzzle in the Hall of Ablution requires players to push the statues in the order corresponding to the poem on a plaque at the end of the room. The prose reads as such: "Although I have just drowned, the arrows’ bite doth sting. They hanged me long ago, yet I feel everything. But still the worst, not last nor first, the sharpened blade did ring.". The new third-person perspective added in Resident Evil Village's DLC gives players a wider view of the statues in the room, and therefore the relationship shared between the objects and the poem.

Resident Evil Village Shadows of Rose DLC Hall of Abluition Puzzle Statue Rose Pushing Object to Solve Puzzle Through Punished Statue

After players have read the plaque at the opposite end of the room, they may notice that each sculpture depicts a gruesome death or punishment. The tortures seen actually correspond to lines in the verses, with one statue displaying a woman being hung in reference to the line, "They hanged me long ago...", as an example. In order for players to solve the puzzle, each statue must be moved in the order the punishments occur in the poem's timeline, quite different from the Hall of Ablution puzzle from Resident Evil Village when Ethan was there. Players can tell if an object was moved in the right order by a brazier lighting above and the inability to move that statue again.

The correct order to move the four statues starts with the one showcasing the hanging, since it occurred, "long ago". Next, the stabbed woman in stone needs to be moved, since it was neither "last nor first". Since the poem refers to the woman having, "just drowned", players might mistakenly assume that means this statue follows. However, the "arrows bite doth sting" can be inferred to be the most recent injury described, meaning the statue covered in mold goes third, then the one covered in arrows. Once the last statue moves in the correct position, players can find the Silver Mask after solving the Hall of Ablution Puzzle, getting that much closer to repeating an encounter with Mother Miranda in Resident Evil Village's Shadows of Rose DLC.

    Summary:
Resident Evil Village follows up the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, again putting players into the first-person perspective of Ethan Winters. Under protection by Chris Redfield and his team, Ethan, his wife Mia, and their newborn daughter Rose, have been relocated to Europe to start a new life. During this time, Chris and his team have been monitoring the family due to the events in Dulvey, Louisiana. After Chris and his team inexplicably attack their home, Mia is presumed dead, Rose is missing, and Ethan finds himself in a mysterious village. After being attacked by mysterious werewolf-like creatures, Ethan sets off to the Village to save his daughter by facing off with a new mysterious cult. Resident Evil Village retains its first-person survival-horror gameplay but injects more action into the formula to reflect that Ethan is no longer just a civilian. Like Resident Evil 4, players can purchase and upgrade weapons to deal with enemies more efficiently. Foes are faster and more robust, and boss fights require a more aggressive approach. Resident Evil Village will receive a new Gold Edition, which will include the ability to play as more characters from the game in the mercenaries mode, an option to play the entire game in third-person, and an epilogue where players can play as Ethan's daughter as a teenager.
