In conjunction with IGN First, Capcom unleashed a brand-new gameplay trailer of Resident Evil Village running on PlayStation 4 Pro for the first time. Until now, the publisher has only shown footage of RE Village on PC and PlayStation 5 hardware. The first of such footage went live earlier this year during Capcom's Resident Evil Showcase event, which also ushered in cursory details regarding the franchise's 25th anniversary celebrations and the RE:Verse multiplayer component.

Capcom's observance of Resident Evil's 25th anniversary is ongoing, with the latest celebration taking place in Rainbow Six Siege. Last week, the publisher partnered with Ubisoft to release a Jill Valentine-inspired Elite Set for Siege Operator Zofia. The first two weeks of February saw The Division 2 host a limited-time Apparel Event dedicated to Resident Evil-themed items. Plus, Resident Evil movie fans have the reboot film to look forward to this year, though Sony Pictures recently postponed its release to November.

The wait for Resident Evil Village is slowly coming to an end, meaning Capcom should begin ramping up its marketing campaign. In so doing, the publisher partnered with IGN to release first-look footage of the new entry running on a PS4 Pro. The gameplay looks great, but what will especially interest fans is the story-related content. RE Village's new footage most notably provides a bit of context about previously seen clips and screenshots. For example, the popular image of Lady Dimitrescu sitting in front of a vanity mirror actually revolves around a phone call about Ethan Winters and a ceremony of some kind. On the call, the Lady tells Mother Miranda that Ethan managed to escape the clutches of Heisenberg. (Not that Heisenberg.) Ethan has apparently proven too difficult for even the Lady's daughters to handle.

Again, the PS4 Pro gameplay for RE Village looks good on video. The impressive lighting previously shown on PS5 and PC doesn't seem to have taken too much of a hit. Capcom has yet to unveil footage of the game on base PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. As such, it remains to be seen how the first-person title will fair on much older hardware.

The next mainline entry in Capcom's long-running horror franchise takes place after the events of 2017's Resident Evil 7. Players will again assume the role of Ethan Winters, who now finds himself trapped in a different kind of terror, a terror centered around werewolves, gorgeous lady vampires, and the return of Chris Redfield.
