Resident Evil Village and Far Cry 6 are just two of the many games that will be getting upgrades to their PC versions via AMD's new FSR technology. AMD finally simultaneously unveiled and launched its FidelityFX Super Resolution technology last June 22, which included an initial list of seven games that released support for the feature.

The new technology from AMD basically lets users play games at higher resolutions while maintaining high framerates. This is performed using “spatial upscaling technology” which renders frames at a lower resolution than the one specified, then upscales them without much loss in visual fidelity. It is currently AMD’s best answer to NVIDIA's DLSS technology, which performs the same function but uses more advanced AI-based deep learning technology to do it. Unlike NVIDIA’s DLSS technology though, which is exclusive to newer NVIDIA GeForce RTX series graphics cards, AMD’s FSR is compatible not only with both AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards but with a wider range of models from both newer and older generations.

AMD published a new blog post announcing the latest set of games that will be receiving FSR support in the next couple of weeks, including Resident Evil Village. The company previously teased DirectX Raytracing and FSR support for the game during the launch of its Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card. AMD also released its latest FidelityFX Super Resolution Partner Showcase, featuring Ubisoft and Far Cry 6. In the video published on AMD's YouTube channel, Ubisoft 3D Team Lead Programmer Stephanie Brenham explains that the studio has been working with AMD to implement rendering technologies such as DirectX Raytracing and AMD FidelityFX features like Super Resolution.

Apart from Resident Evil Village and Far Cry 6, some of the other games that AMD announced would be receiving or have already gotten support for FSR include Arcadegeddon, Necromunda: Hired Gun, and Edge of Eternity. The new titles join the growing list of games that are already taking advantage of the new technology from AMD, such as Anno 1800, Godfall, and DOTA 2. There are now a total of 13 games with support for FSR and, along with Far Cry 6, eight upcoming titles that have been announced to release with the feature included.

Technologies like AMD’s FSR and NVIDIA’s DLSS have definitely opened the door for people to play AAA games such as Resident Evil Village and Far Cry 6 at higher resolutions without having to sacrifice framerate. And with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology being available to anyone through the GPUOpen platform, more game developers will be able to implement the new feature into their games.
