The Resident Evil Village DLC has been announced at the Capcom Showcase event and it will be called Shadows of Rose, named after the teenage daughter of Ethan and Mia Winters, who must survive within the realm of Megamycete. The DLC is one of many new updates on the horror franchise, with Capcom also confirming the release of current-gen upgrades for Resident Evil 7, as well as 2 and 3.

Resident Evil Village was the latest adventure of Ethan Winters, who was forced on a dangerous journey to save the life of his daughter. The ending of Resident Evil Village showed an older version of Rose, leading many fans to believe that she would be the protagonist of a future Resident Evil game. Rose mentions that she has powers and that Chris Redfield is part of her life, setting her up for future appearances. Rose's powers are likely connected to the mold-based abilities of other characters seen in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, which could give her a range of abilities that have been used by the other Resident Evil protagonists.

The Capcom Showcase event finally gave fans an update on the previously announced Resident Evil Village DLC. The DLC and base game will be collected in the new Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, and will also be sold to current owners of the game as part of the Winters' Expansion, which will include a third-person mode for Ethan Winters in the main game, as well as new characters for Resident Evil Villages' Mercenaries mode. Both will release on October 28, 2022. The trailer for the Resident Evil Village DLC can be seen on the official Resident Evil YouTube channel.

Shadows of Rose features Rose trapped in a realm within her own consciousness, which is made up of her memories of the village she was trapped in as a child. She is guided by a man named "Michael," who offers a way to remove her powers. Rose also encounters a duplicate of herself, as well as a villainous version of the Duke from Resident Evil Village. It seems that Rose won't be using her powers in the Shadows of Rose expansion, as she is shown using a pistol in the available footage. The official Resident Evil Village website has confirmed that the DLC will take place from a third-person view, rather than the first-person view from the main game.

It's interesting to see the Resident Evil Village DLC continuing the story, rather than expanding on the content from the original game. Most fans assumed the DLC would either involve a prequel chapter or would add new areas for Ethan to explore in the story. The fact that Rose is already taking center stage is an exciting direction for the game to take, as Shadows of Rose and future expansions could show her learning to use her powers, ahead of a full starring role in a future Resident Evil game.
