A new version of Resident Evil Village built specifically for PlayStation VR2 was revealed during the recent PlayStation State of Play. The latest installment in the survival horror franchise released to acclaim back in May 2021, but it has yet to receive any expansions or DLC. Last year developer Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Village DLC is in development, though it has since kept quiet on the matter.

Once again following Resident Evil 7: Biohazard protagonist Ethan Winters, Resident Evil Village sees the skilled survivalist search a horrifying town for his missing daughter. While Biohazard returned to the beloved series' survival horror roots, Village reintroduces more combat-focused gameplay elements with a range of available weapons and melee attacks. The game manages to reinvent traditional horror icons like werewolves and vampires into truly terrifying and threatening enemies. By improving and expanding upon the story and gameplay of its predecessor, the eighth installment was able to breathe new life into the aging franchise. Resident Evil Village won Game of the Year from a number of publications last year, and now fans will be able to immerse themselves in its horrifying world once again.

Before the reveal of its virtual reality rerelease, many fans were hoping to learn about Resident Evil Village DLC previously promised by Capcom. The game ends on a cliffhanger teasing Chris Redfield's next adventure, so it seems natural for Capcom to expand upon this uncertain ending through downloadable content. However, as of writing Resident Evil Village DLC has not yet been revealed by Capcom, with the developer instead bringing the original experience onto the PlayStation VR2.

Fans were thrilled by Resident Evil Village's horror atmosphere and intense combat when it first launched, and now PlayStation VR2 will make the title even more immersive. The terrifying first-person survival game constantly keeps players on the edge of their seats, and virtual reality should create fresh opportunities for new scares. Those interested in returning to Resident Evil Village in VR can look forward to the anticipated launch of PlayStation VR2.
