Resident Evil Village came out in May to significant praise, and Capcom is set to release new DLC content for the game in the future. While no details about the DLC have been revealed, Capcom has a few options about what direction to take the new content, considering the ending of Resident Evil Village. One potential plotline Capcom could pursue is Chris Redfield's adventures between the ending of the game and the surprise post-credits scene in the epilogue.

New DLC for Resident Evil Village was first announced during Capcom's E3 livestream this year. Capcom stated that the new content was being developed due to popular demand of Resident Evil fans, showing a dedication to keeping its fanbase happy. No release date for the DLC has been announced yet, with the potential that it will be released alongside the delayed Resident Evil: Re:Verse multiplayer experience in 2022.

Chris Redfield has been a mainstay in the Resident Evil franchise since the very first game, serving as a primary protagonist in the fight against Umbrella Pharmaceuticals. His involvement in the story of Resident Evil Village begins with mystery, as he seemingly kills Ethan Winters' wife Mia and whisks Ethan and baby Rosemary away in an act that seems out of character. Eventually, his intentions are revealed to be more helpful to Ethan that expected, setting up a playable section for Chris that sees him working with his Blue Umbrella squad to take down Mother Miranda and the Megamycete beneath the village.

How Resident Evil Village's DLC Could Use Chris Redfield

The ending of Resident Evil Village sees Chris escape the village via helicopter with the real Mia and Rosemary, with Ethan staying behind to heroically sacrifice himself to save them. Chris is surprised to discover that his former employer, the BSAA, is using zombie soldiers to fight their battles now, setting up the plotline of Chris fighting the BSAA in future Resident Evil entries. The epilogue scene of Rose visiting her father's grave doesn't include Chris directly, but he is mentioned during an interaction between Ethan's daughter and a Blue Umbrella agent.

The new Resident Evil Village DLC could easily fill in the gaps concerning Chris and his whereabouts during the 15 years since the ending of the main game. Redfield is no stranger to having his own DLC, with Capcom opting to craft the Not A Hero DLC from Resident Evil 7 around the character and explain his new involvement with Blue Umbrella, the organization he has always fought against. The Village DLC could do the same thing by showing any potential engagements between Chris and the BSAA concerning their development of biomutants.

Capcom could also use the new RE Village DLC to explore the relationship between Chris and Rose more, as it seems that Chris has become a type of mentor to help Rose control her special powers from the Megamycete. Showing how Chris chose to train and monitor Rose in the years following Resident Evil Village's ending would be an intriguing storyline for the DLC, helping to establish the type of relationship they have leading up to the eventual Resident Evil 9. Even though it may be some time before Capcom reveals what the new DLC for Resident Evil Village will be about, following up on Chris' story could be rewarding to fans.
