One of Resident Evil's biggest strengths is its characters, from the charming Leon Kennedy to the undaunted Jill Valentine. Despite so many longstanding characters with ongoing plot threads, Resident Evil 7 introduced a brand-new cast to the series. However, instead of focusing on yet another new group of Resident Evil characters or shifting the focus back to people like Claire and Jill, Resident Evil Village once again focuses on Ethan Winters and his family.

While it's unclear what most of the original Resident Evil characters are up to during the events of Capcom's latest title, Chris Redfield does play a vital role in the story of Resident Evil Village. Chris has been with the series since the beginning, which means he's starting to get up there in terms of age.

Recent games in the series, like Resident Evil 6, portray a world-weary Chris Redfield wracked with guilt over the deaths that have happened under his command. He's softened up a bit since then, but still seems a bit over everything. Here's how old Chris Redfield is in Resident Evil Village.

Chris Redfield was born in 1973, meaning he was 23 during the events of the first Resident Evil game in 1996, when he served as point man for the STARS Alpha Team. Resident Evil Village takes place a good 25 years later in February 2021, putting Chris Redfield at the age of 48. It's certainly impressive that Chris is still in such robust shape and able to take on unspeakable horrors when he's nearly fifty.

Chris has served in a number of different positions over the years, including as part of the U.S. Airforce before the events of Resident Evil and as part of the BSAA for over a decade. At the time of Resident Evil Village Chris leads The Hound Wolf Squad, a set of BSAA-trained soldiers who've effectively gone rogue. The squad was established in 2018, which would be one year after the events of Resident Evil 7 in Dulvey, Louisiana.

It's also interesting to note that Chris will definitely be alive for quite a few more years in the series, as his name is mentioned in the epilogue of Resident Evil Village. The game doesn't state exactly when the epilogue takes place, but based on Rose's age it's roughly been around 15 years since the end of RE8, which would put Chris in his 60s. He's also back working with the BSAA, or could even be leading the organization by this point. No matter what, Chris Redfield will likely continue to play a vital role in the Resident Evil franchise, and it'll be interesting to see what path the character takes from here.
