With the show grounded in the games' mythology, Netflix's Resident Evil season 2 is set to feature one major video game character. The series hails from Andrew Dabb, who worked on Supernatural for a good portion of its run beginning with season 5 as a Story Editor, producer and co-showrunner for its final four seasons. Development on the Resident Evil show was announced a few years after the Milla Jovovich-led film franchise came to a close, with producers Constantin Film partnering with Netflix and Moonlighting Films to bring the survival horror property to the small screen.
Resident Evil is set across two timelines, the first begin in 2022 and following half-twins Billie and Jade as they struggle moving to their new home in New Raccoon City, an oasis-like town built by the Umbrella Corporation and home to new experiments from their father, Lance Reddick's Albert Wesker. The second Resident Evil timeline is set in 2036, in which humanity has been reduced to 300 million refugees across the world and sees Ella Balinska's Jade now grown up and working to find a cure for the T-virus while Umbrella conducts a global manhunt for her. Resident Evil delivered a number of exciting surprises across its eight-episode first season and those behind the show are promising one will be further explored in the future.
Ahead of the show's premiere on Netflix, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with Andrew Dabb to break down the Resident Evil series. Dabb specifically opened up about the season 1 finale, in which Jade and Billie are driving away from New Raccoon City with the "Bert" Wesker clone and have a note from their now-dead father pointing them towards meeting Ada Wong. When asked whether the character would be explored further, Dabb confirmed Resident Evil season 2 would "100 percent" see Ada make an appearance.
Introduced in Resident Evil 2, Ada Wong has quickly become a fan-favorite character within the game franchise for her action heroine prowess, good-looking design and the chemistry she has with iconic protagonist Leon S. Kennedy, despite her working for Umbrella. Ada has since gone on to appear in Resident Evil 4 as a player character, as well as getting a playable section in the recent Resident Evil 2 remake, though was cut from an appearance in Resident Evil Village due to reported issues with figuring the character's place in the story. She has also made her way to the screen with adaptations of the franchise, being played by Li Bingbing in Jovovich's Resident Evil: Retribution and Lily Gao in last year's Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City during the film's mid-credits scene.
Though the show has yet to be renewed by Netflix, having only just premiered this week, Dabb's confirmation of Ada appearing in a potential Resident Evil season 2 is sure to be a promising tease for fans of the video game franchise. Given the series is set within the games' mythology, one could hope that Ada's appearance could also lead to season 2 featuring Leon, be it in a flashback between the two characters or in one of the two main timelines. In the meantime, audiences can catch up with Resident Evil season 1 streaming on Netflix now.
