2019's Resident Evil 2 Remake not only remade the classic 1998 game, but it completely rebuilt the entire experience from the ground up. Over 20 years after the debut of the original game, Resident Evil 2 Remake greatly improved on the horror classic, making for one of the greatest horror video games of all time. Following the 2019 game's critically acclaimed release, Capcom quickly followed up with Resident Evil 3 Remake in 2020. Although not quite the hit that its predecessor was, this remake was also highly praised. Since then, fans of the Resident Evil franchise have been left wondering two important questions: which Resident Evil games will be remade next, and when will they come out?

There have been plenty of rumors and lots of speculation about which Resident Evil games are likely to be remade next. Although the 8th installment of the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil Village, has been confirmed for a 2021 release, Capcom has yet to release news about when fans can expect new remakes. That doesn't mean there aren't several clues pointing to what these games will be and when they'll come out, however.

Various reports and yet-to-be-confirmed leaks suggest that multiple remakes are on the way over the next few years. Given the fact that Capcom pumped out Resident Evil 3 Remake so soon after the debut of Resident Evil 2 Remake, it is likely that fans won't have to wait long at all to see the next few remade installments of the franchise. Recently released news of a Resident Evil movie reboot also suggests that another game remake may be right around the corner as well.

The Resident Evil movie series is getting a reboot that is said to be much more faithful to the story of the original Resident Evil video games. That means that the first installment in this reboot series will most likely mirror the original Resident Evil video game, which also means fans of the franchise could possibly get a ground-up remake of the original Resident Evil sometime in late 2021, around the time that the movie will come out. For marketing purposes, it would be a huge missed opportunity for Capcom to not release a remake of the original Resident Evil on next-gen consoles sometime close to the movie's release, since it is likely an experience many younger players have yet to have. However, that's just speculation, and not as concrete as the likelihood of a Resident Evil 4 remake.

Resident Evil 4 Remake in Late 2022

Resident Evil 4 Remake May Not Be Revealed This Year, Says Leaker

The one game that every fan of the franchise wants (or fears) to be remade is Resident Evil 4. Nearly every Resident Evil fan feels Resident Evil 4 is already so perfect that it shouldn't be touched, but regardless, Resident Evil 4 Remake appears to be the next game in line after Village and the possible original game's remake. Although Resident Evil 4 had reportedly entered development for a release sometime in 2021, now a leaker is saying that the game likely won't even debut gameplay until 2022. So, fans shouldn't expect the game's release to be any sooner than late 2022.

If the first two Resident Evil remakes have shown anything, it is that they have the potential to be some of the greatest video games ever made. Resident Evil 2 Remake has certainly made the top of many people's lists. Given that the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4 are widely considered to be some of the greatest games of all time in their own right, it is likely that their remakes will be must-have games. And, based on what players know so far, they likely won't have to wait too long to play them.
