In the battle of Mr. X Vs Nemesis which of Resident Evil's most iconic monsters comes out on top? Ever since the surprise success of the original Resident Evil in 1996, the franchise has come a long way. From the Resident Evil movie franchise to anime adaptations and bizarre spinoffs like Umbrella Corps, it's twisted and mutated more times than William Birkin. Like any long-running series there have been a few duds along the way, but Resident Evil always finds a way to come back and reinvent itself for players.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the Resident Evil 2 remake proved there's a lot of (undead) life in the franchise yet. The series also has an uncanny knack for designing memorable creatures, including the Lickers, Lisa Trevor, and the eerie Regenerators. Then there are the boss encounters, from the iconic Tyrant battle that ends the first game to fighting a giant alligator and ramming Jack Baker with a car.
Easily two of the franchise's most iconic monsters are the Nemesis and Mr. X, who are both Terminator-like creations that stalk players. Mr. X - AKA the T-00 - appears in the original 1998 version of Resident Evil 2 and its 2019 remake, and is airdropped into Raccoon City by Umbrella to seek out a sample of the G-Virus. In the original game, he only appeared in the "B" scenario and would pop up throughout the campaign, walking slowly towards players. In the remake he's way more active, relentlessly stalking Leon and Claire, with his thunderous footsteps enough to unnerve players.
The Nemesis, on the other hand, made his debut in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. He's basically an enhanced version of Mr. X but he's way faster, stronger, and armed with a rocket launcher and whiplike tentacles. He was introduced to the game to keep players constantly on their toes, as he's difficult to take down in regular combat and could stalk players from room to room. He could even utter a single word, usually announcing his presence with a raspy "STARS!"
Both Mr. X and Nemesis morph into different, tougher forms later in the games, with the latter taking a truly tremendous amount of damage before finally dying. In a head to head battle behind Resident Evil's Mr. X and Nemesis, which creature would win? Well, despite being downright petrifying in Resident Evil 2's remake, it would most likely be Nemesis. He's way faster, can quickly regenerate damage and is better equipped. Since it only takes one blast from a rocket launcher to destroy Mr. X in the finale of Resident Evil 2, it's doubtful he would last long in a fight with Nemesis, especially considering his usual leisurely pace.
The upcoming remake of Resident Evil 3 will also feature the Nemesis armed with a flamethrower, so he's set to be even more formidable. Since there's more than one version of the Tyrant series, maybe the remake will feature a full-on Mr. X Vs Nemesis battle, just to settle this particular Resident Evil fan argument once and for all.
