Video games have evolved greatly in the past decade and continue to get better and better at bringing cinematic-like experiences to gamers. Resident Evil is one of the very many video game franchises that continues to develop it's narratively driven formula. Starting with a very unique horror game in 1996, Resident Evil became a widely successful series of games that continue to release to this day.

A couple of films were released based on the game but didn't see a lot of positive reviews with critics or fans. With a Resident Evil Netflix show rumored, it would still be cool to see a return to movies one day.

Leon Origin Story

Resident Evil 2 2019 Leon Kennedy

Leon is a fan-favorite character and one of the coolest protagonists in the franchise. He's a bit on the edgy side but definitely knows how to get the job done. A cool idea for a movie would be to show what he was up to before the events leading into Resident Evil 2. Leon has a lot of depth to him and to explore his background as to why he wanted to become a cop would be extremely interesting. Even if this was done with a present-day story that had flashbacks, Leon's storyline has a lot that can be pulled from the games into the movies.

Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 Remake Claire protecting Sherry

The recent remake of the classic Resident Evil 2 brought a bunch of new fans to the series as well as satisfied fans of the original game. The story follows Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield during the outbreak that takes place in Raccoon City. Leon spends his first day on duty as a police officer on what may be the worst day ever. The police station is one of the most iconic settings in the entire Resident Evil franchise and it would be really cool to see some of the moments spent there in the game recreated. The game does follow two different storylines through Leon and Claire that do conflict with each other as events play out differently depending on which character you play but it could be interesting to see the movie have them flow together.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

The latest game in the Resident Evil series to get the remake treatment would be a perfect candidate for a movie adaptation. It follows Jill Valentine, a former S.T.A.R.S (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) as she attempts to escape Raccoon City during the outbreak.

The story takes place prior to the events of Resident Evil 2 but connects very well with Leon and Claire's story. The main threat of the game, Nemesis could be really cool to see in a movie version of this story. His character design could be done with the use of CGI and practical effects to make him close to his video game counterpart.

Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 is held very dear in the hearts of a lot of fans that grew up playing the games during the Gamecube era. The fourth entry into the series completely changed reinvented and transformed the gameplay and it's one of the most influential games in the past 20 years. It had a strong story that continued the journey of Leon Kennedy years after Resident Evil 2 on a mission to save the daughter of the President of the United States. It did shy away from the horror aspects of the original games and took a rather more action-filled approach with the gameplay. It has a great story that develops the evil plot of Umbrella Corporation.

Resident Evil 5

Wesker Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 is another great game that had a phenomenal co-op experience that still holds up to this day. The story was pretty good, although it didn't exceed expectations as a follow up to Resident Evil 4. It still could work very well as a movie following Chris Redfield and his partner Sheva. It had a lot of big moments that could work really well in a condensed two-hour film. Things such as the battle with Wesker, and even Chris punching a boulder would be interesting to see in live-action.

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7 made the biggest leap for the franchise in terms of changing up gameplay. The game went back to the original roots of the franchise by focusing heavily on the horror rather than huge action set pieces. It has one of the most memorable boss fights that can be extremely intense to watch on the silver screen. Compared to some of the other games, this one might be the easiest for a transition into a movie. It plays out like a normal haunted house scenario but expands into a deeper and more interesting plot that unravels as the main character, Ethan Winters explores the house.

Code Veronica

One of the more underrated games in the franchise, Resident Evil: Code Veronica follows Claire Redfield after she's captured by Umbrella Corporation. The game has a nice balance of horror elements as well as some action sequences that could be really cool to see in a movie.

Claire is a strong female protagonist with a backstory that links to a lot of the other characters in the series. It would be awesome to see this as a follow up to a Resident Evil 2 movie considering it takes place after that story.

Chris Redfield Origin

Chris Redfield shoots a gun in Resident Evil 5

Chris Redfield is another very interesting character in the Resident Evil franchise. A live-action origin story could show him becoming a member of S.T.A.R.S up until the events that took place in Raccoon City. Just like Leon and Jill, Chris Redfield has a lot of links to everything that's going on in the bigger story. There's a lot of backstory to his ties with Albert Wesker as well as his sister Claire Redfield and he even appeared briefly in Resident Evil 7. To explore his backstory on how he got involved with everything that went down in Raccoon City would make for a really cool live-action movie.

Resident Evil 8 Prequel

While Resident Evil 8 hasn't been officially announced yet, it's bound to come out at some point and most likely continue the gameplay style introduced in Resident Evil 7. If it were to continue the story of that game, a movie could be used as a sort of spin-off tie in to build hype. Whether the game is going to see the return of Ethan Winters, or maybe even bring back fan-favorite characters from the other games, a prequel movie could do a great job at setting up the plot and could be released prior to the new game.

Baker Family

Resident Evil 7 Baker Family

The Baker family were the main antagonists of Resident Evil 7 and did great in making the beginning moments of the game terrifying. A prequel film showing how the Baker family became the way they were in the game could develop the already interesting plot of the 7th game. There's already bits and pieces of what happened to them in the game and its downloadable content. This could even be set as a minor part of a Resident Evil 8 prequel if it were to be made. Ethan had a lot of bad experiences in the haunted house and the Baker family was very much responsible for that. It could be possible for him to still be haunted by the events that took place there.
