Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a new video for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City which puts the focus on Chris Redfield played by Robbie Amell. The film is based on the Resident Evil video game series from Capcom. The highly popular game series has spawned myriad live-action film adaptations dating back from 2002's Resident Evil up to 2017's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, with all of them starring American actress Milla Jovovich as the lead. Shortly after the release of The Final Chapter, it was announced that Welcome to Raccoon City will be a reboot of the franchise.

As part of a series of character vignette snippets released by Sony, the latest video features the writer/director of the film, Johannes Roberts, discussing the character of Chris Redfield who is a part of the Raccoon City Police Force, labelling him as "a small-town hero who has to become an action hero." The video also features Amell promising that the film will "very much" be a faithful adaptation to the game series. See the full video below:

Chris Redfield appears prominently throughout the game series and was a playable character in many of the titles. The iconic character was last portrayed in a live-action film by Prison Break and Legends of Tomorrow alumni, Wentworth Miller, in Resident Evil: Afterlife. Robbie Amell, who is next in line to play the fan-favorite character, has been on quite an impressive run since he first appeared on CW's The Flash, bagging lead roles in films and TV series which includes rom-com feature The DUFF, the sci-fi film Code 8, and the Amazon Prime series Uploadso fans of the game and the films alike will undoubtedly be looking forward to his portrayal.
