For the last 15 years, the Resident Evil film franchise has proven to be shielded from the unstoppable curse on video game movie adaptations. The first five Resident Evil films, starring Milla Jovovich as Alice, have gained quite a following from die-hard fans of the long-lived Capcom video game series of the same name.
The films have taken on a continuity of their own by focusing on Alice as she develops into a superhuman bioweapon, all while a global apocalypse unfolds in the wake of a zombie outbreak caused by The Umbrella Corporation. The main characters from the games, Chris and Claire Redfield, Albert Wesker and Jill Valentine have also appeared in the films, but only as supporting roles. At the end of the 5th film, Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice was left with the impossible task of saving all of humanity.
After a 5-year hiatus Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the 6th and sadly the last film in the franchise, will wrap up Alice's story as she hopefully takes down The Umbrella Cooperation once and for all. With original director and screenwriter Paul W. S. Anderson back at the helm, we can expect another action-packed adventure. A new poster for the movie was released last night, and now an international trailer has arrived, recapping Alice's journey through the movie's so far and bringing it up to the present timeline, where Jovovich's character promises to tell, "the end of my story."
Another poster for The Final Chapter has now been released, to go with the film's newly-unveiled U.S. trailer. You can check both of those out, below.
Here is the official synopsis for The Final Chapter:
Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will see theatrical release in the U.S. on January 27, 2017.
