Resident Evil: Afterlife Comic-Con Trailer

Resident Evil 4: Afterlife Trailer from Comic-Con 2010

At Comic-Con last week, Sony Screen Gems held a Resident Evil: Afterlife panel presentation, where they brought out the main cast for the fourth installment of the live-action series of films based on the super successful video game franchise.

During the presentation, we and the rest of the audience were witness to the latest Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer and a full clip from the film. That trailer has been released online and you can check it out below.

Before you jump into the trailer, I will say that this was arguably the most unimpressive panel held in Hall H at Comic-Con this year. The trailer didn't show too much new and the one scene they presented was slow, incredibly fake and campy. You can see hints of that here:

Can you count how many 3D gimmick moments where something (or someone) is thrown towards the camera?

When they first announced the project, I suggested that instead of continuing the franchise on the path they were heading, they should instead take notes from the latest video game, Resident Evil 5 and use that as a guide to making the next film. Director Paul W.S. Anderson must of heard our cries or discovered on his own the same thought process as he based a lot of the set pieces, characters and fight sequences directly from RE5. Unfortunately, the live-action adaptation just doesn't hit the same notes as the cinematic cutscenes presented in the game.

For diehard fans of the Resident Evil films, you'll definitely be interested in Afterlife. For myself, who only enjoyed the first movie in the series, I have less and less excitement about this movie the more I see, and the James Cameron 3D camera system that's continually made out to be the key selling point doesn't help.

Hopefully, there's enough cool action sequences and that it's not entirely in slow-motion like the weak Executioner scene shown at Comic-Con.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, starring Milla Jovovich, Wentworth Miller, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Kim Coates and Kacey Barnfield. It hits regular, 3D, and IMAX theaters on September 10, 2010.
