New details on Resident Evil Village have come to light, thanks to Capcom's January 2021 Resident Evil Showcase. The eighth title in the mainline Resident Evil series took center stage with a gameplay reveal that detailed settings and characters, along with how RE8's gameplay builds on RE7's. Ever since Resident Evil 8 was first announced at the PlayStation 5 reveal event last June, fans have been clamoring for more information. This gameplay trailer offered more than enough to intrigue players, including RE8's enigmatic "tall vampire lady" antagonist: Lady Dimitrescu.

The intriguing, elegantly clad mistress of the RE8's central castle first appeared in a trailer announcing the showcase, accompanied by a free Resident Evil PlayStation avatar in her image. In Resident Evil 8's first-person perspective, the Showcase gameplay trailer then showed protagonist Ethan Winters cowering before Lady Dimitrescu and her equally mysterious daughters. She is exceedingly tall, nearly matching the height of the gilded, four-poster bed and apparently having to duck in order to avoid a chandelier.

Although her identity has been revealed, there is not much detailed information on Lady Dimitrescu. The RE Showcase quickly moved on to reveal upcoming multiplayer game Resident Evil RE:Verse, leaving fans to piece together bits of information about Resident Evil 8's "tall lady" from the trailer. The trailer itself is just over six minutes long, and the domineering figure of Lady Dimitrescu only occupies a fraction of it. However, there are a few insights that can be gleaned from the dialogue included in the trailer.

Resident Evil 8's Tall Lady Dimitrescu Explained

Who Resident Evil 8's Tall Lady Is

Lady Dimitrescu is the matron of Resident Evil Village's Castle Dimitrescu, which can be explored in RE8's The Maiden PS5 demo. Much like Village's predecessor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the game appears to make villainy a family affair. When confronting Ethan Winters, Lady Dimitrescu mentions he must have already escaped her brother, who may or may not be the man with round sunglasses seen in other trailers thus far. This would suggest Resident Evil 8's main story will have multiple segments that prominently feature different villains. This tracks well, as Village is a successor to Biohazard, which pitted Ethan Winters against the various members of the Baker family.

Lady Dimitrescu may be higher ranking than her brother and her terrifying, swarm-of-insects daughters, but she also does not appear to be the one pulling all the strings. A great deal of her dialogue in the gameplay trailer comes from her phone call with a person known as Mother Miranda, to whom Dimitrescu seems to be reporting. This call reveals Ethan has already bested a Resident Evil 8 character named Heisenberg (generally assumed to be her previously mentioned brother), as well as Dimitrescu's daughters. Lady Dimitrescu and Mother Miranda also briefly mention an important ceremony, no doubt the culmination of their dastardly plotting.

While Lady Dimitrescu appears to be the big bad in Resident Evil 8, there is clearly more going on behind the scenes that will have to be discovered in the game. Will the tall Lady Dimitrescu be the final boss? Or will the even more mysterious Mother Miranda make an appearance? Suffice to say, the recent gameplay trailer provided plenty to entice Resident Evil Village fans into picking it up on May 7.
