The VR version of Resident Evil 4 has gotten its first gameplay trailer which also confirmed an October 2021 release date. The new trailer showcases many of the iconic moments from Resident Evil 4 from an all-new perspective, giving a strong idea of what to expect from the new port of the classic survival horror game. The new iteration of Resident Evil 4 is coming to Oculus Quest 2 this fall and aims to retain the core fundamentals of the game while reshaping it for VR.

Capcom's survival horror classic has long defined the series as one of the best entries. Resident Evil 4 managed to capture so many hearts that Capcom has re-released it on almost every major system that has come out since the game launched in 2005. Although Capcom may be overly reliant on the game, this new VR port may be a breath of fresh air for Resident Evil fans and give the publisher a valid reason for another re-release.

The new Resident Evil 4 VR port for Oculus Quest 2 has gotten its first official gameplay trailer which also confirmed the game will launch on October 21, 2021. Although Resident Evil 4 had motion controls in the Wii version many years ago, the Oculus Quest 2 version takes it a step further by redesigning many of the mechanics around the first-person perspective. Leon can now swap weapon attachments at will by pulling them off his body and place them on the gun during gameplay. There's a much more contextual approach to the various mechanics in the game, allowing players to exist in the world without having to enter menus to perform a number of different actions.

It's a bit unclear how developer Armature Studios will maintain the tank controls that made Resident Evil 4 so special. It would be pretty jarring to freeze players in place in a VR context, so perhaps there's more of a compromise to invoke fear over the POV rather than the movement or core gameplay. The last two Resident Evil games have successfully taken on the first-person perspective and managed to utilize the fear through the unique POV.

This VR version will likely be the last port of the original game as Capcom is reportedly planning a Resident Evil 4 remake. There are no major details on how Capcom will tackle the beloved game, but it's also expected to play differently than the original game. The other recent remakes of the series have also modernized the controls and movement to appeal to a new audience, which has largely gone over quite well.
