Continuing the trend of remaking popular classic titles, the Resident Evil 4 Remake will have a larger development team than the Resident Evil 3 remake did. With the success surrounding the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, it’s natural that Capcom would move onto remaking the next game in the franchise, capitalizing on its current momentum and bringing fans more of what they love.

The Resident Evil 3 remake released on April 3, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. While the game maintains the core concept of the series and its 1999 predecessor, there are some changes in Resident Evil 3. Resident Evil 3 sold very well, with many players challenging themselves to completing its content in some of the most difficult ways possible, including the infamous knife only runs. The Resident Evil 3 remake came about due to Capcom’s decision to move forward with the project after an overall positive reaction from fans regarding the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Now, according to VGC, Capcom will be continuing the positive trend after the Resident Evil 3 remake’s success by producing a Resident Evil 4 remake. The fourth game’s remake will be reportedly be developed by M-Two, a company based in Osaka, Japan. Moreover, M-Two has been preparing for the Resident Evil 4 remake’s development since 2018 after it was founded by Tatsuya Minami – the former head of PlatinumGames.

Resident Evil 4 Remake's Dev Team Will Be Larger Than Resident Evil 3's

Coinciding with the new remake’s larger development team is support from the teams behind Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5, which are internal Capcom teams. Furthermore, many developers who worked on the original Resident Evil 4 will be hands-on with the game’s remake, including Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Mega Man 11), Kouji Kakae (Devil May Cry 5), and Kiyohiko Sakata - who was the game director for the Resident Evil 3 remake at Red Works. The Resident Evil 4 remake, however, will be directed by an as-of-yet unnamed individual at M-Two.

Despite some divisiveness among fans regarding whether Resident Evil 4 needs a remake, the previous two remade installments indicate a remake of the fourth game will likely be well-received once it’s released. Regardless, whether a classic game “needs” a remake is irrelevant, as companies will do what they feel fans “want,” what the developers “love,” and what the publishers deem potentially profitable. Seeing popular classics remade using modern technology is always interesting, as the story comes to life better than before due to enhancements made to graphics and the advances made to voice acting and animation.
