Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake will recreate Leon Kennedy's iconic survival horror adventure, and the project also looks poised to expand the role of fan-favorite character Luis Sera. The classic third-person shooter revolutionized the Resident Evil series by emphasizing fast-paced gunplay and introducing an over-the-shoulder camera angle. Resident Evil 4's story is lauded as one of the franchise's best, and the remake seems to give one of its best characters the spotlight thanks to a story change.

A reimagined Resident Evil 4 story will make the upcoming remake both familiar and fresh for longtime fans and newcomers. The title's basic premise will remain the same, with government operative Leon S. Kennedy traveling to a rural Spanish town to find the U.S. President's kidnaped daughter. However, Leon quickly discovers that the mind-controlling parasite Las Plagas has transformed the townsfolk into horrifying monsters. Resident Evil 4 Remake will adjust key characters like Ashley Graham to fit the project's modern sensibilities, and it appears that Luis Sera will also be given a more robust role in RE4 Remake, too.

How RE4 Remake Will Change Luis, One Of Resident Evil 4's Best Characters

RE4 Luis

The Resident Evil series is known for its memorable supporting characters, with Luis Sera standing out as one of the survival horror franchise's most beloved survivors. The original Resident Evil 4 character is one of Leon's few allies, first appearing when Leon is taken captive by the corrupted villagers. Initially presenting himself as a police officer, Luis is eventually revealed to be a former Las Plagas researcher. After battling alongside and forming a bond with Leon, Luis is sadly killed by antagonist Osmund Saddler after retrieving pills to help his zombie-slaying buddy survive a Las Plagas infection.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake Will Expand Luis' Role

Luis Sera as he appears in the remake of Resident Evil 4.

While Luis Sera already plays a central role in Resident Evil 4, trailers and pre-release material suggests that the noble survivor will receive even more spotlight in RE4 Remake. This big Resident Evil 4 Remake story change seems to pair Luis with Leon during events that he wasn't present for in the original, like the double El Gigantes boss fight and Leon's mine cart ride. This means that Luis Sera will likely appear much earlier, and survive longer, in RE4 Remake's story. This will hopefully let Capcom flesh out the fan-favorite character and give his eventual fate even more weight.

Luis Sera played a small yet impactful role in the original Resident Evil 4, and the upcoming RE4 Remake looks to put even more emphasis on his role. The opportunity for the Resident Evil 4 Remake to change its characters will help Capcom flesh out and tweak certain figures to meet modern standards, while also keeping older fans of the series on their toes. By introducing Luis earlier and delaying his death until later in the story, the Resident Evil 4 remake can make his loss even more emotional for Leon and the player.
