With the Resident Evil 4 remake looking to build on the original's success, some of the game's enemies will be due for some horrifying enhancements to fit the remake's gameplay. Following in the footsteps of Resident Evil remakes for the first three mainline games in the series, Resident Evil 4 looks to update the original game with modernized gameplay, enhanced graphics, and - in some places - additions entirely new to the remake.

As Resident Evil 4 remakes the original's gameplay, there are a few areas in particular that seem to be getting heavy attention, with movement and knife mechanics in particular being changed to better resemble the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3. Alongside those changes, the story and characters of Resident Evil 4 look to be getting some changes as well, with modified character designs and a tone that seems to be leaning somewhat more into the horror aspects of the game. Among the many changes, however, a few in particular stand out - those made to the game's signature enemies, the Ganados.

Matching Leon's enhanced movement and the many gameplay changes of the Resident Evil 4 remake, the Ganados will be redesigned to be more threatening, with even some entirely new enemy types added to the mix. Building on their traits from the original game, Ganados will make use of better tactics, with unarmed enemies, for example, attempting to grab Leon for more dangerous enemies to hit. Additionally, in an interview with Game Informer, Art Director Hirofumi Nakaoka introduces an enemy type entirely new to the remake - a bulky, hammer-wielding Ganado wearing the head of a cow, bringing a menacing presence to some encounters.

RE4's Ganados Are Smarter In The Remake

While smarter, more threatening Ganados may seem like something a departure from the original game, they could be a necessary addition for the game to keep up with updated player mechanics. With many of RE4's more controversial features being reduced or removed in the remake, more challenging Ganados could add to the tense horror atmosphere in a more engaging way, encouraging newer players to engage with the game's mechanics and keeping more experience players on their toes with new surprises. Additionally, as RE4's more intelligent Ganados set it apart somewhat from the zombies of other Resident Evil games, leaning more into that aspect could give the remake a unique feel.

With the remake quickly approaching its release date, there remains much to be seen about how the game will play out, with smarter, more threatening enemies like Ganados and updated mechanics. Releasing on March 24, Resident Evil 4 is looking to make smart new additions to enhance the original classic.
