A small group of dedicated modders is days away from releasing their fan-made Resident Evil 4 HD Project with a new trailer showing their impressive work. The survival horror action franchise has seen its share of sequels, movies, and spin-offs, and unfortunately, not every Resident Evil game has been received wellResident Evil 4 continues to be a fan-favorite as it transitioned the series from the slower-paced survival horror experience seen in the series' first entries into a more fast-paced affair closer to what is seen in Resident Evil games released nowadays.

After the original Resident Evil 4 was released on the Nintendo Gamecube in 2005, the series was never the same. Fans enjoyed the shift to 3rd-person action, which the game's developers balanced well with an intense survival horror setting. Not only did the gameplay shift set the standard for the new entries and eventual Resident Evil 1-3 remakes, but it also became one of the most ported games, as RE4 has even been ported to VR. However, when Capcom released its version of the game's HD Edition on PC in 2014, two modders were disappointed to see that many of Resident Evil 4's textures were not fully updated in the seemingly final remaster. So they took it upon themselves to do it better.

After more than eight years since Capcom's Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition release disappointed fans Cris Morales and Albert Marin, they are almost ready to release their much-improved Resident Evil 4 HD Project. Reported via VGCmodder Albert Marin released a trailer that promises every single texture of the classic game has been remastered for the upcoming RE4 mod. Remastered textures, improved lighting and visual effects, and much more improvements are showcased in clear 4K in the trailer below.

The latest port of the game saw RE4 release in VR for the Oculus headset. While the port successfully brings the already tense campaign into a more immersive experience, it failed to provide some of RE4's fan-favorite game modes. The Mercenaries mode is included in the RE4 HD Project, which has players fight wave after wave of enemies as different characters from the entire Resident Evil franchise with movesets specific to each character. Modders also plan to include the game's many bonus costumes and Separate Ways Campaign, which had players play as Ada Wong in a story parallel to Leon's journey in RE4. After more than eight years and countless hours of making improvements and reshading, the complete remaster mod of Resident Evil 4, and all of its modes will be available to download for those who have RE4 downloaded on Steam on February 2nd, 2022.

On the official side of things, rumors of a Resident Evil 4 remake have been running rampant for the last few years. In the meantime, though, modders Cris Morales and Albert Marin have successfully recreated arguably the definitive version of Resident Evil 4 that gamers will enjoy for many years to come. While Capcom will surely make some changes to the original game in future iterations, fans will have a 4K version of the classic game thanks to the Resident Evil 4 HD Project with all the extras and game modes available on PC next week.
