After ample speculation, new reports have surfaced stating that a Resident Evil 3 remake is in development and could release as soon as next year. The success of Resident Evil 2 Remake almost gauranteed a reboot of the third iteration of the series, and the fact that the title was also nominated as a Game of the Year candidate at The Game Awards 2019 speaks volumes for its reception. In many ways, Resident Evil 2 Remake won back consumer trust for Capcom, although the firm isn't simply set on remakes as its bread and butter moving forward.

For example, Capcom revealed Project Resistance not all that long ago. This is a co-op game set within the world of Resident Evil that has yet to really cement itself as a majorly anticipated title, but it's clear that Capcom has its eyes set on delivering more original experiences. Whether building on Monster Hunter World with the fantastic Iceborne expansion or delivering a wonderful sequel in Devil May Cry 5, Capcom doesn't appear to be slowing down either. Tjat's what makes these new reports unsurprising to say the least.

Both Eurogamer and the notorious YouTube-based insider Spawn Wave are reporting that Resident Evil 3 Remake is currently in development. Despite previous Resident Evil 3 teases from Capcom, the turnaround time for this game's release is apparently quite quick. That is to say that, based on these same reports, Capcom is eyeing up a 2020 release for the alleged remake. All in all, it appears as if the only thing missing now is an official confirmation from Capcom.

Release platforms weren't discussed, which is important to note since Xbox's Project Scarlett and PlayStation 5 are both scheduled to arrive in Holiday 2020. A cross-generation release for Resident Evil 3 Remake could be a profitable venture as gamers upgrading their consoles will want some new software to test it all out and existing users aren't left behind. That's just some speculation, but seeing the grotesque Nemesis rendered on next-gen hardware would be a terrifying treat for longtime fans.

It's interesting to note that the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on PlayStation 1 starred Jill Valentine and takes place during the events of Resident Evil 2. Valentine is left stranded in Raccoon City, pursued by the aformentioned monster Nemesis as the creature hunts down any and all members of the group known as S.T.A.R.S. Given that Resident Evil 2 Remake featured bonus content, perhaps Resident Evil 3 Remake will do the same. It would be nice to see Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy given even more time to shine, after all.
