Resident Evil is one of the most prolific horror franchises of all time, with a deep history in both video games and film. Resident Evil 3 is the latest title to recreate Raccoon City, and it brings incredible detail to the location.

There are plenty of references to other games in the series, and Resident Evil 3 ties directly into the Resident Evil 2 remake that released in 2019. However, there are some other fun references in the game as well.

One little Easter Egg, in particular, references another iconic Japanese horror series. It's found in the darkroom of the Raccoon City Police Department.

Later on in Resident Evil 3, Carlos has to make his way to the Raccoon City Police Department. The building uses the same layout as Resident Evil 2, and if players head to the darkroom there's a fun Easter Egg for another horror video game. When Carlos finds a camera in the room he remarks "If a camera killed those things I'd be set." This is a reference to the Fatal Frame series, which uses a camera as its main gameplay mechanic.

What Exactly Is Fatal Frame?

Fatal Frame

For anyone unfamiliar with the Fatal Frame series, it made its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2001. The franchise focuses on Japanese horror and has seen five main entries and a couple of spin-offs. In each Fatal Frame title, the protagonist has to use a device called the Camera Obscura, a photo camera that can pacify malevolent spirits. The series has seen critical acclaim since it's introduction, but unfortunately, it's last entry was all the way back in 2014 with Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. Fatal Frame has even been featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with Maya, the main character of Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir, appearing as an assist trophy.

Resident Evil 3 is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
