The Resident Evil 2 Remake is a solid reimagining of the 1998 original. Just as the original did, the remake contains a plethora of unlocks. Inside these unlocks are two new modes that will change the way players enjoy Resident Evil 2. The two new modes put a time-sensitive spin to the already stressed out gameplay of the standard mode and will challenge even the best players.

Bringing back fan favorites Hunk and Tofu, Resident Evil 2 Remake holds true to the originals unlockable timer-based gameplay. Unlocking these modes is no walk in the park as players will need to beat the main game multiple times. However, for the die-hard Resident Evil fans, these modes will come with some rewarding challenges and a little drop of nostalgia.

The 4th Survivor in Resident Evil 2 Remake

Resident Evil 2 Remake 4th Survivor

The 4th Survivor is, arguably, the toughest mode to play in Resident Evil 2 Remake and stands above all other modes as the most stressful. In it, players will take on the role of Hunk, a heavily armored Umbrella operative must escape the Racoon City Police Department before time runs out.

To unlock The 4th Survivor players must complete the standard story modes with both Leon and Claire. Players can choose either character to start with, creating the "A" game. After the first successful win, players will be able to choose the other character and go through their "B" game. Once completed, The 4th Survivor will be available under the Bonus Games menu.

With little resources at hand, this mode will challenge the player's skills no matter how good they are. The 4th Survivor can also be replayed once finished and players can attempt to beat their original time. With its difficulty and speed-run feel, Hunk is a great addition to an already fantastic game.

Tofu Mode in Resident Evil 2 Remake

Resident Evil 2 Remake Tofu Survivor

The Tofu Survivor mode is very similar to The 4th Survivor in that players will attempt to speed through the Racoon Coty Police Department as fast as they can, with very little resources. The big difference here is that the player will be a giant chunk of Tofu. Originally used to debug collision detection by the developers, Tofu was loved so much by staff they decided to keep him in the game as this unlockable mode.

To access The Tofu Survivor, the player must follow the same steps in unlocking The 4th Survivor by beating an "A" game and a "B" game in standard mode. They must also successfully complete The 4th Survivor. Once finished, players will be treated to the loveable chunk of Tofu, where weapons are almost obsolete and survival depends on not being eaten too much. This mode is also a race to the finish that players can enjoy over and over in attempts to better their score.

One of the great new features of The Tofu Survivor is the addition of new blocks of Tofu that a player can unlock with multiple run-throughs. From the original knife-loving Tofu to the grenade heavy Uiro-Mochi, there are a total of 5 different varieties of Tofu for players to enjoy.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is one of the best examples of how a remade game should be done. It keeps in the spirit of the original while adding updated graphics and controls. Zombies have never been more enjoyable to kill. Or desperately run past as a huge piece of Tofu.
