Roku has ordered new episodes of Reno 911! after acquiring the show from Quibi earlier this year. A mockumentary-style satire of Cops, Reno 911! originally ran on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009. The series followed the incompetent members of the fictional Reno Sheriff’s Department and their bumbling, less-than-heroic style of policing. Eleven years after it was cancelled by Comedy Central, Reno 911! was picked up for a seventh season on the erstwhile streaming platform Quibi.

According to Collider, Roku is reviving Reno 911! for a run of full thirty-minute episodes. The episode length is a return to form for the series. The Emmy-nominated comedy’s seventh season—which was delivered in five to ten minute “quick bites” rather than a full half-hour—premiered in May of 2020.

When Quibi shut down in December of 2020, it sold the majority of its programming to Roku, including the Kevin Hart project Die Hart and other successful series. The platform, whose goal was to sell quick content to consumers, had also planned on an eighth season of Reno 911! and even released a video announcement. Luckily the new season is coming to fruition, albeit on a different streaming service.

Creators Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, and Kerri Kenney-Silver all returned for the rebooted Reno 911! season last spring. Cast members Cedric Yarbrough, Niecy Nash, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Carlos Alazraqui, Mary Birdsong, and Joe Lo Truglio also joined. Though casting announcements for the new episodes are forthcoming, audiences should look forward to a cadre of notable guest stars for which Reno 911! is famous.
