Everything We Know About Renfield

The Renfield trailer provides plenty of new details about the movie's storyline and characters. The plot revolves around Hoult's Renfield as he grows tired of being Dracula's henchman and wants to get out of the toxic relationship. It is a fresh take on the well-known Universal character who is typically portrayed as a devoted follower of Dracula. Renfield is equipped with a variety of powers whenever he eats spiders or other bugs. These abilities are showcased throughout the Renfield trailer and tease the 2023 horror movie making good use of its R-rating to include plenty of gore and violence.

There will be two key characters in Renfield's story that pull the henchman in different directions. One is his love interest, a security guard played by Awkwafina, and the other is Nicolas Cage's Dracula. Some of the other story details are still being kept under wraps, such as who Renfield is shown fighting throughout the trailer. Still, the expectation that Renfield will be a horror action comedy is certainly true based on the tone established in this teaser.

Renfield's Dracula Can Continue Nicolas Cage's Resurgence

Nicolas Cage as Dracula in Renfield

Although used sparingly in the marketing so far, Renfield looks to be another movie that will continue Nicolas Cage's career resurgence. The actor has never slowed down how many projects he appears in, but most of them were obscure and poorly reviewed films. However, he's been on a great run over the last year thanks to 2021's Pig, where he delivered a performance that should have brought an Oscar nomination. Nicolas Cage followed it up with the hilarious meta-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent in 2022. Playing Dracula was always going to be a role that Cage could excel in, and the first Renfield trailer indicates that he has delivered another memorable performance indeed.
