Hugh Jackman stars in Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy's upcoming sci-fi thriller Reminiscence, and here's everything we know about it so far. At the end of the day, much of a person's life boils down to the memories they managed to create, the moments that still trigger an emotional reaction years or decades later. It's no wonder then that the concept of accessing past memories shows up as often as it does within the sci-fi genre, with just two movie examples being Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Final Cut.

When the world has taken a sideways turn, and one's new memories are mostly turning out to be of the unhappy variety, it makes sense that a way to relive happier ones would be a service those with resources would indulge in. Such a service exists within the near-future world of Reminiscence, but as the characters within will soon learn, a window into the past can come with its own problems.

Reminiscence Story Details

Reminiscence Nick Mae Water

Reminiscence takes place in a near-future Miami, in which the formerly sun-soaked Florida city has been flooded by rising sea levels, and war has broken out. Nick lives and does business there, which allows clients to relive any memory they wish, and considering the circumstances, that's an understandable goal. Nick meets and begins a whirlwind romance with Mae, but she soon disappears, and a different client's memories point to Mae being far from what she seemed, possibly even a killer. Nick sets out to discover the truth.

How To Watch Reminiscence

As mentioned, Reminiscence is one of the many 2021 Warner Bros. films set to release simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters. Those that would prefer to stream Reminiscence will need to shell out $14.99 in the U.S. to subscribe for one month, but prices may be different in other countries that offer HBO Max, and potential viewers should consult their local version. Thankfully, there's no additional cost to watch.
