The hit anime series That Time I got Reincarnated As A Slime returns with a much-awaited season 3. The announcement was made official during an advanced screening of the upcoming anime film That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond.

Also known as TenSura, this series is among the most successful and influential in the popular Isekai genre. In the story, a regular corporate worker called Mikami Satoru gets randomly stabbed in the street and dies, only to be reincarnated in a fantasy world. The twist is that Satoru is not reborn as a mighty warrior but as the weirdest and lowest of monsters, a slime. Taking the name of Rimuru and mixing his human cunning with the natural abilities he is reborn with, the protagonist manages to become one of the most powerful monsters in the world, a Demon Lord, and build a prosperous kingdom called Tempest where monsters and other races can coexist in peace.

TenSura, which is now considered one of the best isekai series of all time, began in 2013 as a fantasy light novel series, written by Fuse. After the sweeping success of the books and of their manga adaptation (published by Kodansha from 2015), the first anime season aired in 2018, becoming an instant hit, with a second one following in 2021. When the first movie in the franchise was announced, fans' attention was completely focused on this big-screen adaptation. Surprisingly, during an early screening of the film in Japan, Season 3 of TenSura was officially announced, which included the unveiling of a fantastic teaser visual that you can admire below, courtesy of Crunchyroll.

Season 3 Of Reincarnated As A Slime Will Show Rimuru's Hardest Battle

The visual features Hinata Sagakuchi, one of the strongest opponents that Rimuru has to face after his ascension to the rank of Demon Lord. Hinata is a Paladin and the leader of the Western Holy Church's Ten Great Saints and also a Japanese "Otherworlder", just like Rimuru. This confirms that Season 3 of the anime will adapt the seventh volume of the light novel series, titled Saint-Monster Confrontation. As the title implies, the story will see a heated battle between Hinata and Rimuru while both are caught in a sinister plot to destroy Tempest.

Sadly, no further information is available at the present on Season 3 of TenSura, including the release date and staff, but it's very likely that Eight Bit studios, which produced the previous seasons and the movie, will return. Crunchyroll will bring Season 3 of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime to Western audiences, so fans of the series should keep their eyes open for more future announcements.
