Before playing the vampire-slaying first-person shooter Redfall, players should know about many of the game's features to have the best chance against the supernatural enemy hordes trying to take over a small Massachusetts town. With diverse characters that have different skills and abilities, players might struggle to figure out exactly how to start. From weapon stakes to tricks with the game's map, there are plenty of options to learn about when players begin.

Players should keep in mind that Redfall supports co-op multiplayer with up to four friends in crossplay, meaning they can assemble the best squad possible before tackling vampire nests or other challenges. By hosting a game or joining another one someone else created, players have more firepower at their disposal to take down any bloodsucking foe. However, supplies are few and far between sometimes, and more players mean more resources to collect as well.

7 Always Unlock Fast Travel Points

Getting from location to location can be tricky in Redfall, with deadly vampires or cultists around nearly every corner in large groups. Pinning down Safehouses or Historical Markers throughout the map lets players and their allies travel freely in between areas. Safehouses in particular are great places just to rest after a tough battle, letting players get an idea of where to go next or what materials they might need before another mission.

Even though fast traveling is great for navigating around the map, players must remember that it takes a few seconds to initiate the warp between travel spots. If there are dozens of vampires still attacking a player or their group, it would be unwise to fast travel right then and there. Waiting for the right time to fast travel can be important, as long as players have unlocked enough points to have more options when trying to flee quickly.

6 Keep Stake Weapons Close

The vile vampires of Redfall are obviously the main enemies players will constantly face, but these foes cannot be killed by normal weapons. Only stake weapons are able to put down a vampire for good, or else the bloodsuckers will regenerate their health after a period of time. Guns and other damaging items slow down these children of the night, but only stake weapons put these monsters to ash permanently.

With so many vampire enemy types in the game, players should keep a stake weapon on their weapon wheel constantly as they play. Being able to switch to this weapon fast out of the three weapons players can have equipped at a time lets players decimate these undead without giving them a chance to recover. Stake weapons are usually heavy and attack fiercely, and players can technically have more than one on their wheel if they want.

5 Pick the Right Skills While Leveling Up

As individual characters level up from completing main story missions and side quests, players gain skill points to spend on different upgrades. Players are recommended to finish every quest they come across in order to accumulate as many skill points as possible for these improvements. Checking the Skill Menu lets players see how many points they have ready to spend to unlock new, powerful abilities for their character.

All progress and skills bought carry over, even in single-player mode, so players have to be careful which upgrades they choose. Every character might benefit from at least one or two health upgrades before players start focusing on other skills that boost attack, defense, etc.

4 Look Out for Resources Often

While weapons are found somewhat frequently, other supplies such as ammunition and health packs are much harder to come by in Redfall's creative vampire slaying adventure. However, the most important tools players will need the most are Lock Picks and Rewire Kits. These items open up locked houses and other areas, and are sometimes needed to complete certain quests.

Some Lock Picks and Rewire Kits are sold back at the player's home base, but being out in vampire-infested areas may make it difficult to return to that safehouse. Stockpiling on these items before venturing out into the town should become a habit for any player to keep a steady supply of these tools. Players also have the chance to purchase an upgrade that increases Lock Pick or Rewire Kit carrying capacity using their skill points.

3 Explore During the Day

Although venturing out during the daytime doesn't prevent players from encountering vampires, there are fewer enemies during this part of the day. The blocked-out sun still shines some light, making it far easier to see enemies and prevent players from getting ambushed without warning. In the same vein, players in need of a quick exit from a building are able to see the routes available far more often than they would in the dark.

2 Challenge Vampire Nests When Supplies are Low

Inevitably, players will find the materials lying around town to not be enough to prepare for another mission. In this event, Vampire Nests are havens that give huge amounts of rewards for players who can beat the challenging mini-bosses inside. Taking the time to find every piece of loot in a Nest gives players a massive collection of supplies that could last for a long time compared to simply scrounging a couple of buildings around town.

While this method may be the most difficult, the heart containers within a Vampire Nest hold more than enough health packs, ammunition, and weapons to give players an extra edge for eliminating the vampires that live there. Nests do Collapse after players destroy the Heart in the center of these dungeon-like areas though, so players have to be quick when trying to collect all the loot in these places.

1 Salvage Weapons that Won't be Used

Weapons are some of the most common supplies found in the game, but many aren't going to get used beyond the main three players decide to wield most. Holding the "Salvage" button when looking at a weapon in a player's Loadout screen lets them break down the tool for money. This is an important skill to know before playing Redfall since players can then use this money to buy other important supplies like Lock Picks or health packs.
