While fans of Jurassic Park and Toy Story might be clamoring for cinema tickets to get front row seats for the releases of Jurassic World: Dominion and Lightyearthere are others who would rather wait until it's available to watch at home.

While there is nothing wrong with going to the theater to watch a movie (as many do love the audience participation or the one-of-a-kind atmosphere), there's no denying that some people just prefer the comfort of their home. It might be because there is something so personal and intimate about the experience or because they are able to fully devote their attention to the story without getting distracted, but watching a movie at home can just be as enjoyable. There's even a Reddit thread about this where people have expressed which movies they have found to be best watched at home.

Unfriended

The evolution of film and TV means that both the latter and former are able to be filmed and watched in various ways. Beyond the realism of a mockumentary, filmmakers have taken to having a movie play out over a webcam setting.

Reddit user mrmungostoffelees explained how Unfriended "...should be watched on a laptop/computer for the best experience...Just feels more effective that way." With various windows filling a viewer's computer screen from the movie, it could easily feel as if it's real life and add to the concept that the creators chose to go with.

A Quiet Place 2

There are plenty of movies that are inundated with loud noises and constant action. But there are others that don't require constant loudness.

A Quiet Place is one such movie and Redditor ndksv22 explained it would be best watched at home because "...a loud audience would have ruined it completely and you just never know." Cinema etiquette does mean that audiences should remain quiet and respectful. But that can't always be guaranteed and a particularly rowdy crowd would have destroyed the mood of the movie.

The Irishman

Martin Scorsese has become renowned for his plethora of high-quality work, with many of his movies being based around gangster narratives.

As one of Scorsese's best movies, Reddit user What-a-Crook picked The Irishman as the movie that should be watched at home by adding "No way I could've sat through The Irishman in a theater." As a movie that's almost 3 and a half hours long, sitting in one chair could become a little uncomfortable and there's a chance that someone would need to take multiple toilet breaks throughout. The cinema, arguably, can't match the comfort of a viewers' own home (since they will be able to pause the movie whenever they want to if they need a break).

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

Available To Stream On HBO Max

The found-footage technique has become a popular method in movies, especially for those that fall under the categories of thriller or horror. Due to this, Redditor gredgex pointed out that The Blair Witch Project "is the one movie that benefits from watching on tape..."

The movie was released in 1999, at the time of larger camcorders with a lesser quality than current recreational filming equipment. Therefore, watching The Blair Witch Project on tape would only help to set the scene. The visual quality is very telling of the era it came from and a crackling VCR would be perfect to watch the movie (which was on a low budget but struck gold at the box office).

The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

Available To Stream On HBO Max

Intense, action packed movies can require solid concentration to ensure audience members keep up with the plot line and it's characters. Reddit user JC-Ice noted The Bourne Supremacy as one such movie, by claiming "I found it much easier to follow the action scenes in Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum on a tv screen than in the theater."

The Bourne franchise moves fast with its narratives and being sat amongst an audience of strangers can invite various distractions. Even having a bigger screen to look at can be too much to take in whereas when the visual is pared down to the measurements of a television, the movie can be less overwhelming.

Home Alone

Available To Stream On Disney+

Christmas movies are arguably as warming as a glass of mulled wine and a crackling fireplace during the festive season. So it's no surprise that one of the best Christmas movies on Disney+ is best enjoyed in the comfort of a living room.

Redditor Kaz_Memes picked "Home Alone! (For obvious reasons.)" Along with being able to sit in a suitably decorated home, the title also makes it seem a good idea to steer clear of a busy theater and do as Kevin does by remaining home alone.

Garden State

The cinema can be a popular way of watching a movie to feel like viewers are getting a bigger and better experience than they would at home.

However, Redditor envybelmont pointed out that Garden State isn't best watched in a theater because " The developing relationship between Andrew and Sam always felt intimate enough that a big screen was actually distracting from the story." Whilst the likes of an action movie or one with elaborate scenery is great on the big screen, a simple television set can work just as well to help focus on the intricate, delicate scenes that are shown.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Available To Buy On Amazon Prime Video

Some will find the cinema to be comfortable viewing and lap up the likes of popcorn, a big drink and cushioned chairs. But for others, it isn't quite the same.

Reddit user wisperingdeth chose Once Upon A Time because it's good to watch "...where you can chill out on the sofa with a can..." Being able to sit (or lay) without having to consider others and have a drink to help relax can be a real benefit of being at home. And what better movie to do so with than a Tarantino work of art?!

The Ring

Available To Stream On Netflix

Certain movies are so clear-cut in their aims and genres, that audience members can pinpoint very specific ways of wishing to watch them.

Reddit user PaintByLetters said, "The best viewing of The Ring possible is on VHS in a cabin on an island off the coast of Seattle." Like a scary movie, audiences with a strong stomach would enjoy the heightened level of horror that being on a secluded island would bring. But, understandably, it would be a little too much for others to handle.

The benefit of watching any movie on the big screen is the clear sound, great picture quality and all-encompassing feeling of being part of an exciting experience. However, there are some things that can only be done if a movie is watched on a television.

Reddit user Jamey4 said they would prefer to watch The Lord Of The Rings at home because of "...the sheer length of the films and the intermissions that would result from them, lack of a pause button..." Lengthy movies do sometimes need to be paused so audience members can absorb the plot line, or sometimes just to move about. But, of course, in the cinema, that's not possible to do.
